POSITION TITLE: PROCESS ENGINEEER REPORTS TO: PLANT MANAGER DIVISION: AB MAURI FLSA STATUS: DEPARTMENT/ LOCATION: OPERATIONS / MEMPHIS APPROVAL DATE: POSITION OBJECTIVE: Provide technical leadership and engineering support to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency of fermentation and Packaging Operations. The Process Engineer will optimize manufacturing processes, troubleshoot operational issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, product quality, yield, and cost performance. OPERATIONS SUPPORT• Provide daily technical support to fermentation and Packaging operations.• Monitor and analyze process performance for fermenters, utilities, separators, CIP, and Packaging• Identify process deviations and implement corrective actions.• Support production teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve production issues. PROCESS OPTIMIZATION• Analyze fermentation and packaging process data to improve yield, productivity, and product quality.• Lead initiatives to optimize brewing protocols, Separation procedures, and process control strategies.• Conduct root cause analysis for process upsets, contamination events, or performance losses.• Implement process improvements that reduce variability and increase operational efficiency. PROCESS CONTROL & TECHNOLOGY• Work closely with the Fermentation Specialist and Plant Yeast Technical Manager to update and improve brewing protocols.• Evaluate process control strategies and recommend improvements to automation and instrumentation.• Support implementation of new technologies, process upgrades, and capital projects.• Assist with scale-up, validation, and commissioning of new equipment or process changes. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT• Lead and support continuous improvement projects focused on yield improvement, energy efficiency, and cost reduction.• Utilize Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools to improve process performance.• Develop and maintain process documentation, including SOPs and operating guidelines. QUALITY & COMPLIANCE• Ensure processes meet standards for quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance.• Support investigations related to quality deviations or process failures.• Assist in maintaining GMP standards within Fermentation, Separation and Packaging HEALTH & SAFETY• Promote safe work practices and support plant safety initiatives.• Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), risk assessments, and incident investigations.• Ensure process changes follow proper Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
A COMBINATION OF THE LISTED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE IS PREFERRED• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Biochemical Engineering (preferred).• 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing process engineering, preferably in fermentation, food, biochemical, or chemical manufacturing industries.• Strong knowledge of fermentation, utilities, and biochemical processes.• Experience troubleshooting and optimizing industrial manufacturing processes. Position Charter - PROCESS ENGINEER• Familiarity with process control systems, instrumentation, and data analysis tools.• Experience working in GMP or food manufacturing environments preferred.• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across operations, maintenance, and technical teams.• Experience working with 24/7 operations Other• Other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS• The employee will regularly work in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to industrial equipment, airborne particles, and chemicals.• The role requires frequent standing, walking, and interaction with operating equipment.• The employee may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and climb platforms or access equipment areas.• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required in designated production areas
