Job description

Job Description
The Learning Specialist I's primary focus is on enhancing the overall employee learning and development experience by designing, delivering, monitoring, and supporting new employee orientation and other educational and informational programs. The Learning Specialist I will work in partnership with other ETOD members to ensure all programs (in-person, online, and blended) align with the department strategy, are of consistent quality and are scheduled and delivered to meet organizational needs. The Learning Specialist I will support other ETOD initiatives, including the creation of the online department newsletter, maintenance of the department's intranet site, and participating in special projects as they arise.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • New Employee Orientation: Leads all aspects of planning, materials preparation, communication, and facilitation for new employee orientation on a recurring 2-week cycle.
  • Assists with or leads training delivery (in-person and virtual) on topics that describe key aspects of our organization and introduce new hires to skills that reinforce our culture.
  • Teaches and embodies the Planetree person-centered care philosophy taught during orientation
  • Collaborates with Human Resources, Information Services, Security, and other departments as needed to ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new hires. Delivers clear and compelling presentations that effectively communicate information and ideas. Able to respond succinctly to questions and concerns.
  • Evaluates programs, tracks evaluation data and generates reports. Presents outcomes to departmental leadership.
  • Course Development & Delivery: Designs and develops learning experiences for staff with a goal to provide training that is engaging, effective and appealing in content and composition.
  • Creates engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and learner experience.
  • Ensures all course materials are created using appropriate templates and standards and are integrated with the learning platform (e.g. Oracle).
  • Works with subject matter experts and ETOD team members to identify target audience's training needs that can be addressed through virtual or in-person learning experiences.
  • Creates supporting material/media (audio, video, animations, job aids, presentation materials)
  • Consults and collaborates with subject matter experts and ETOD team members to apply adult learning strategies to the design, development, testing, and implementation of new courses/modules; ensures consistency of curriculum between online and classroom offerings and serves as back-up for classroom offerings developed by others.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation to support decisions in assignments and approval and finalization of content
  • Routinely audit the learner experience to identify improvement opportunities
  • Additional ETOD Projects: Supports the ETOD department in carrying out strategic priorities and special projects related to organizational development, employee engagement, and leadership development.
  • Assists with organizational development projects by participating in activities like administering surveys, conducting focus groups and employee interviews, compiling information and helping to prepare reports or make recommendations.
  • Conducts research in response to requests for new learning programs and identifies appropriate learning methodologies to create effective classroom and online learning.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert (SME) for workshop topics that are covered in NEO and offers them to staff.
  • With the other members of ETOD, assists with preparing logistics and content for large initiatives like the annual staff development conference and leadership retreats.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • 2 - 4 years' experience working in Learning & Development, Human Resources or a related function.
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Highly reliable with ability to set up an offsite classroom and host a 3-day learning experience at least twice per month.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills (written, verbal and presentation) including a clear and confident speaking voice that is comfortable delivering online and/or classroom education.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design methodologies, and learning technologies.
  • Experience facilitating virtually with MS Teams or similar classroom technology with the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and solve problems related to the technical components necessary to deliver online training or webinars.
  • Experience designing and developing a variety of learning materials to be used in-person and remote classrooms.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude, commitment, and enthusiasm for learning and development and an interest in growing within the ETOD department.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Excellent organization/time management skills - Ability to prioritize work with competing deadlines and keep multiple tasks moving forward simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong customer service orientation and can-do attitude with an ability to quickly build strong relationships
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and has an ability/desire to learn new software and applications, as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
