Job description

This position is responsible for managing the dispatch functions of one or more dedicated fleet operations to ensure the efficient and effective movement of our customers' products. This includes direct and indirect supervision of the office staff supporting dispatch and/or the professional drivers supporting the account.
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and leadership while assisting in the daily operations.
  • Oversee dispatchers by training and providing the tools the team needs to be successful as well as oversee daily operations of the dispatch process while ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Supervise and provide leadership for dispatchers to build and maintain a strong team through effective communications, hiring, training, coaching, counseling, appraising, rewarding, developing, and succession planning. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Efficiently manage routing changes and organize resources to make sure deliveries and services are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Continually assess the service level and provide recommendations to manager regarding opportunities to improve operational performance.
  • Monitor and manage Key Performance Indicators and cost factors impacting operational effectiveness.
  • Effectively communicate with the customer on a regular basis regarding core transportation issues impacting the customer and the effectiveness and efficiency of the fleet.
  • Build and maintain a positive work environment where team members and their contributions are recognized and valued. Maintain frequent communication with all team members.
  • Promote and monitor employee safety and take proactive steps to create a positive safety culture. Partner with customer, internal and external resources as necessary to identify, evaluate and remove safety obstacles. Ensure compliance with safety programs and protocols as well as federal, state and local regulations.
  • Embrace, promote and lead continuous improvement efforts.

This is a full time position working onsite in Fort Wayne, IN
Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 10:00AM - 7:00PM
Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Associate, Vocational or Technical Degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred in Logistics, Transportation, Business or related field
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in the Transportation Industry (Transportation management, dispatching, customer interaction)
  • Demonstrated experience leading, directing, communicating change and developing a team strongly desired.
  • Preferred candidates will have working knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance.
  • Strong skill base and comfort with technology including Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and routing or dispatching systems.
