We deliver secure, high-quality language solutions in more than 80 spoken and signed languages for USCIS and other federal agencies.
We are seeking Sylheti Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Sylheti, an Eastern Indo-Aryan language spoken in the Sylhet region of Bangladesh and northeastern India, is often treated as a dialect of Bengali but is linguistically distinct. It is a rare but critical language often required for asylum and immigration proceedings.
Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time Sylheti ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and official proceedings.
  • Interpret accurately, impartially, and professionally in immigration and asylum contexts.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Manage both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge calls.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications
  • Native or near-native fluency in Sylheti and English (knowledge of Bengali is a plus).
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, community, asylum, or government preferred).
  • Strong understanding of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to remain accurate under pressure.
