ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a Grant Management Officer II, Post-Award, for a 6+ month contract-to-hire position based in Boston, MA. This role is responsible for providing expertise in post-award non-financial grants management, with a focus on ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies and supporting the effective management of externally funded research programs. The Grant Management Officer II will work closely with the Assistant Director of Grants and Contracts to oversee an assigned portfolio of externally funded research at DFCI, reviewing and interpreting regulations and institutional policies as they relate to grants management. This position plays a proactive role in protecting the Institute from non-compliance, serves as an ambassador to educate the team and community on sponsored research subject matter-especially post-award processes-and fosters a culture of continuous learning and openness to change. The role is integral to the transition to a new financial management system and may involve taking on additional post-award financial responsibilities as the department evolves.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Review financial and payment terms and conditions of awards for acceptability and compliance with institute policies and guidelines; negotiate incoming FDP Subaward terms with Pass-through Entities (PTE) as needed, and alert supervisor if negotiations are delayed or stalled.
  • Prepare and negotiate outgoing FDP subaward agreements with minimal guidance for awards that include projects outside of DFCI, ensuring all necessary provisions for compliance with DFCI and sponsor policies and procedures.
  • Initiate account set-up and manage documentation in accordance with Grants & Contracts business practices to ensure timely and accurate management.
  • Collaborate with department and division administrators, investigators, and research accounting to resolve budgetary issues, ensuring continued compliance with sponsor and DFCI guidelines for award set-up and reporting.
  • Manage the review and timely submission of annual and final progress reports to sponsors.
  • Stay current with federal and non-federal regulations, policies, and processes, with a focus on post-award compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in the transition to a new financial management system, including learning new tasks related to post-award financial responsibilities such as award activation and payroll change requests.
  • Participate in office training on salary allocation changes to ensure compliance with audit requirements.
  • Document system workflows and standards for managing payroll changes that require post-award team approval.
  • Serve as an ambassador to educate team members and the broader community on sponsored research and post-award processes.
  • Work on other projects and duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Competent working knowledge of NIH, DOD, NSF grants in an academic medical center or equivalent setting; understanding of NCI-specific requirements preferred.
  • Experience with databases related to research and electronic research administration procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write and edit complex material; strong interpersonal and relational skills; flexibility and professionalism in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Understanding of the grant life cycle from a central office perspective is beneficial.
  • Workday and InfoEd experience a plus.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of relevant experience; OR Associate's degree and 4 years of relevant experience; OR Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to review and negotiate award terms and subaward agreements for compliance with institutional and sponsor policies.
  • Proactive approach to ensuring compliance and managing post-award processes.
  • Openness to learning new tasks and adapting to changes, including new financial management systems and evolving departmental responsibilities.
