  • POSITION SUMMARY
  • The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for assisting students and prospective students with understanding and navigating the financial aid process. This position provides guidance on federal, state, institutional, and other available financial aid programs while helping ensure that student files are accurate, complete, and processed in accordance with applicable regulations and institutional policies.

    The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, student-focused, and able to communicate financial aid requirements clearly and professionally.

  • ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONIBILITIES
  • Counsel students and prospective students regarding financial aid eligibility, application requirements, available funding options, and responsibilities.
  • Assist students with completing the FAFSA and resolving incomplete or conflicting financial aid information.
  • Review financial aid applications and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Determine and communicate outstanding documentation and requirements to students.
  • Assist with verification, eligibility reviews, and resolution of financial aid file discrepancies.
  • Explain financial aid awards, loan options, grants, scholarships, payment responsibilities, and other funding resources.
  • Monitor student financial aid files and follow up with students to obtain required documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with institutional policies and applicable privacy requirements.
  • Provide timely and professional customer service by phone, email, and in person.
  • Coordinate with Admissions, Student Accounts, Registrar, and other departments to support students throughout the enrollment process.
  • Stay current on applicable federal and state financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with financial aid reporting, audits, compliance reviews, and reconciliation activities as needed.
  • Participate in student orientations, financial aid presentations, workshops, and other institutional events.
  • Perform additional duties related to financial aid and student services as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in financial aid, higher education, student services, banking, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of FAFSA and federal student aid programs preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and timemanagement skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to explain financial information and requirements in a clear, supportive, and professional manner.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive student information appropriately.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn financial aid and student information systems.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • Experience working in a college, university, career school, or other postsecondary educational environment.
  • Experience with New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is a plus.
  • Experience with financial aid management or student information systems.
  • Familiarity with federal and state financial aid regulations, verification procedures, and Title IV programs.
  • Experience providing direct student advising or customer service.
  • COMPENSATION
  • $22.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and relevant experience.
