Job description

Friendship Public Charter School operates a thriving network of college preparatory public charter schools. The Data Analyst plays a critical role in supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role is responsible for developing dashboards, generating reports, and conducting analyses that help school and district leaders monitor student performance and progress toward key performance indicators.

The Data Analyst will collaborate closely with school staff and district leaders to identify priorities, ensure data integrity, and build reporting systems that improve transparency and accountability. This position requires strong technical expertise in SQL, data visualization tools, and data management practices.

Data Management
  • Create and maintain data collection tools and templates using Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, and our Student Information System.
  • Ensure data integrity through data cleaning, data imports, and regular data quality audits.
  • Support the maintenance of the organization’s data warehouse (managed by an external vendor).
  • Provide accurate data extracts to external vendors as required.
  • Maintain reliable data collection processes across school and district teams.
Reporting & Dashboard Development
  • Develop dashboards to monitor student and school performance.
  • Manage and ensure accuracy of mandated external reports to state education agencies.
  • Track cyclical performance reporting for students, teachers, schools, and departments.
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting requests from school and district office staff.
  • Write advanced SQL queries to generate internal and external reports.
  • Maintain and improve existing reports and dashboards in Microsoft PowerBI and/or Tableau.
  • Build new data visualization tools and dashboards using PowerBI and/or Tableau.
Data Analysis
  • Analyze data to identify trends in student, teacher, and school performance.
  • Conduct statistical analyses to answer strategic questions from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support program evaluation efforts and measure the effectiveness of key initiatives.
  • Provide insights that support strategic planning and operational improvement.
Systems Integration & Automation
  • Build and maintain data pipelines across multiple systems including the data warehouse, student information system, and assessment platforms.
  • Automate data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
  • Improve the efficiency and reliability of data integration across systems.
School & Technical Support
  • Partner with school leaders (principals, instructional coordinators, business managers) to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Support school and district office staff in improving data management practices.
  • Provide training and technical support on data tools and systems.
  • Respond to ad hoc data, reporting, and system support requests.
Required Skills & Technical Expertise
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and advanced SQL query writing.
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerBI or Tableau for data visualization and dashboard creation.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio or SQL Developer.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP).
  • Advanced Google Sheets skills (e.g., QUERY(), IMPORTRANGE()).
  • Experience with Google Apps Script.
  • Knowledge of relational databases and data modeling.
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Python, R, or SAS.
  • Experience with data cleaning, ETL processes, and data quality management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing deadlines.

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Education Policy, or related field preferred).
  • Experience analyzing complex datasets to identify trends and insights across programs or departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in K–12 education, education technology, or school systems.
  • Experience with student information systems and education data platforms.
  • Familiarity with education accountability metrics and reporting requirements.
