Director of Façade Compliance

New York City, NY| Hybrid | Full-Time

About Us

Shape the iconic skyline of New York! Join HLZAE, a wholly owned subsidiary of Milrose Consultants. We build more than buildings—we build confidence in compliance, restoration, and renewal. As a trusted leader in architecture, building envelope consulting, and façade restoration, we partner with clients to preserve and enhance New York City’s iconic skyline. Our team brings deep technical expertise and a commitment to excellence across every phase of design, inspection, and construction administration.

Position Overview

We’re seeking a Director of Façade Compliance to lead HLZAE’s FISP (Façade Inspection & Safety Program) and façade compliance practice. In this role, you will serve as the firm’s foremost expert on NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) façade regulations, inspection standards, and filing protocols. You’ll provide strategic leadership, technical excellence, and operational oversight across all FISP-related services while mentoring inspectors and engineers, strengthening DOB relationships, and driving continuous improvement across our façade compliance operations.

What You’ll Do

FISP & Regulatory Leadership

  • Serve as the firm’s primary technical authority for all FISP matters, ensuring accurate, timely filings and consistent compliance with DOB regulations.
  • Interpret and apply NYC façade codes and rules; advise teams on code clarifications and filing challenges.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with NYC DOB to streamline communication and resolve complex issues.

Quality Assurance & Technical Excellence

  • Review, refine, and approve façade reports to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with DOB expectations.
  • Provide expert guidance on façade conditions, classifications, repair strategies, and DOB NOW submissions.
  • Conduct peer reviews and serve as QEWI on high‑priority or complex projects.

Studio & Team Leadership

  • Forecast and manage workload for FISP cycles, reallocating resources to meet all filing deadlines.
  • Mentor and coach staff on façade systems, inspection techniques, technical writing, and professional development.
  • Lead a personal portfolio of projects, including project management and QEWI responsibilities.
  • Support construction administration for façade repairs, including safety planning and site coordination.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Develop multi‑year project budgets and monitor financial performance across FISP programs.
  • Identify trends in Unsafe filings and collaborate with leadership to support timely repair planning and client communication.
  • Oversee billing milestones and assist with resolving outstanding receivables.

Strategic & Client‑Facing Leadership

  • Represent the firm at industry events and strengthen the organization’s presence in the façade compliance community.
  • Advise leadership on regulatory shifts, emerging technologies, and industry trends.
  • Support business development through proposals, pricing strategy, client presentations, and relationship management.

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • 10+ years of experience in NYC façade restoration, façade inspections, or FISP compliance.
  • Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in New York.
  • Deep expertise in NYC façade regulations, DOB NOW: Safety filings, RCNY requirements, and FISP inspection cycles.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing teams, mentoring technical staff, and overseeing complex façade projects.
  • Strong communication, relationship‑building, and problem‑solving skills, especially in high‑stakes regulatory environments.

Preferred:

  • Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI) status with the NYC Department of Buildings, or willingness to obtain it.
  • Existing professional network within the NYC DOB Facades Unit.
  • Experience presenting at industry associations and representing firms in public‑facing compliance contexts.
  • Familiarity with emerging façade inspection technologies (e.g., drones, rope access techniques).
  • Experience developing multi‑year compliance strategies and optimizing studio operations.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • This position is based in New York City, NY, with a hybrid schedule.
  • Standard working hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $200,000 - $250,000, based on knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Annual discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision, insurance, and 401K plan with a match.
  • Paid time off: Holiday, vacation, sick time, personal and birthday.
  • Career development and growth opportunities.
