How much do feed project engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 21, 2026, the average yearly pay for feed project engineer in the United States is $141,634.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $98,000.00 and $185,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are Feed Project Engineers?

FEED Project Engineers are professionals responsible for managing and executing the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase of large-scale engineering projects, typically in industries like oil and gas, energy, or infrastructure. Their primary role is to develop detailed project scopes, design documents, and cost estimates before the full-scale construction or implementation begins. By ensuring that project specifications and requirements are clearly defined early on, FEED Project Engineers help minimize risks, control costs, and set the foundation for successful project delivery.

What is the difference between Feed Project Engineer vs Feed Supervisor?

AspectFeed Project EngineerFeed Supervisor
CredentialsBachelor's in Engineering, relevant certificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent, technical training
Work EnvironmentDesign, planning, project managementOn-site supervision, operational oversight
Industry UsageUsed in engineering firms, construction projectsCommon in manufacturing plants, feed mills

The Feed Project Engineer focuses on planning, designing, and managing feed plant projects, ensuring technical specifications are met. In contrast, the Feed Supervisor oversees daily operations on-site, managing staff and ensuring production efficiency. Both roles are essential in feed industry projects but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Feed Project Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Feed Project Engineer, you need a solid background in chemical or mechanical engineering, experience with front-end engineering design (FEED) processes, and relevant degree qualifications. Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Aspen HYSYS, and project management tools, along with familiarity with industry standards and certifications like PMP, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you collaborate across disciplines and manage project complexities. These skills and qualifications ensure accurate project planning, efficient execution, and successful delivery of engineering solutions in complex industrial environments.

What are some common challenges faced by a Feed Project Engineer during the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase?

Feed Project Engineers often encounter challenges such as aligning multidisciplinary teams on project objectives, managing changes in client requirements, and ensuring that all technical documentation meets regulatory and safety standards. Coordinating input from process, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers requires strong communication and organization skills. Additionally, tight timelines and budget constraints can add pressure, making effective project management and stakeholder engagement essential for success.
