Job Description:

The Senior Director, New Product Strategy and Planning, North America role is part of the Business Operations & Strategy team and reports directly into the VP of Business Operations. This role is responsible for partnering with the Global New Product Strategy & Innovation Team, the business development team, and North America leadership to provide a commercial perspective for the US market to the ongoing assessment of external assets and opportunities. In addition, this person will partner with the global team to establish and implement early commercialization and pre-launch plans that are fit for US market to maximize asset value.

To support this vision, the Senior Director, New Product Strategy & Planning, North America role will be responsible for:

  • Contribution to the evolution of the Therapeutic Area & Franchise Strategies

  • US market opportunity assessment for external asset evaluations in strong collaboration with the Global Partnering & Global New Product Strategy teams

  • Develop a vision for the new product planning function for North America, focused on transition of internal assets (including early commercial phase 1-2 assets and pre-launch Ph 3 assets) from global to US brand team

Support External Innovation / New Product / Portfolio Strategy:

  • Provide US perspective for external innovation strategies across therapeutic areas, including access & pricing

  • Apply the therapeutic area strategies to the determination of external innovation and business development priorities with a focus on the US market

  • Partner with key functions, including Value & Access, to develop US Market opportunity assessment to identify asset potential, fit with strategy, and identify potential risks

  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance the business development assessment process

  • Be the US commercial lead across all stages of the business development & external innovation

  • Work with Global Partnering & External Innovation to seek out new opportunities proactively as well as providing detailed feedback on assets in triage

  • Partner with Global New Product strategy to lead in-depth commercial evaluation process for NA (e.g., current & future landscaping, secondary and primary market research, forecasting, pricing & access assessment, SMM estimation, etc.) to inform commercial evaluation and diligence

  • Be a proactive partner and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (e.g., business development, external innovation, medical affairs, R&D, regulatory, finance, countries, global pricing & access, business excellence) to support inputs required for commercial modelling & business case development

  • Ensure streamlined, efficient, and quality content generation across all evaluations aligning with internal processes

  • Own & present NA opportunity assessment for external assets to cross-functional team and executive leadership teams

  • Work closely with other counterparts across franchises to share best practices and business opportunities

Driving Internal Pipeline Value & Operationalization for NA

  • Assess process and develop perspective for better integration of new assets across phases 1 - 3 into Ipsen pipeline and NA teams

  • Provide US perspective into launch planning considerations to earlier phase development, including consideration of US value and access and other commercialization critical success factors

Continued focus on New Product Strategy & Innovation Team Development & Performance

  • Support the VP, Business Operations & Strategy and NA President in identifying best opportunities for US

Driving Internal Pipeline Value & Operationalization for NA

  • Assess process and develop perspective for better integration of new assets across phases 1 - 3 into Ipsen pipeline and NA teams

  • Provide US perspective into launch planning considerations to earlier phase development, including consideration of US value and access and other commercialization critical success factors

Continued focus on New Product Strategy & Innovation Team Development & Performance

  • Support the VP, Business Operations & Strategy and NA President in identifying best opportunities for US

Knowledge & Experience (essential):

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in New Product Planning, Global Marketing, Business Development or Portfolio Management roles within the biopharmaceutical industry, including experience in early commercial planning, disease area strategy, business development activity, and forecasting

  • Strong scientific, medical, and commercial experience in oncology, neuroscience and/or rare diseases with a proven knowledge of clinical pipeline planning, business development, and launch activities

  • Strategy consulting experience in life sciences (including work in early-commercial strategy, commercialization, LCM, BD, due diligence, etc.) is highly valued

  • Experience in pricing and access in the US market is preferred

  • Experience developing cross-functional pre-commercialization plans within pharmaceutical company or management consulting

  • Experience in working across a cross-functional matrix team to meet deliverables on time and budget

  • Competitive landscaping experience

  • Strategic marketing expertise (including positioning, targeting, segmentation, launch planning, life cycle management) is highly preferred

  • Strong business acumen and understanding of US market

  • Excellent analytical skills and strategic thinking, including forecasting and business case development

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Sense of urgency and experience in delivering parallel workstreams efficiently

  • Qualitative & quantitative market research experience

  • Strong planning and project management skills

Education / Certifications (essential):

  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences-related discipline and/or an MBA

Language(s) (essential):

  • Fluent in English.

Language(s) (preferred):

Knowledge of additional languages such as French would be helpful.

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is $217,500 to $310,000

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentives program. The pay range displayed above is the range of base pay compensation within which Ipsen expects to pay for this role at the time of this posting. Individual compensation within this range depends on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, prior education and experience, job-related knowledge and demonstrated skills.
