Job description

The Sr. UX Strategist, Web Projects position is a senior individual contributor role on 829's Experience, Strategy & Design team. We are looking for a hybrid thinker-doer with strong agency experience who thrives in both upstream brand strategy and downstream UX execution.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between high-level business consulting and tactical digital execution, expertly connecting the dots across our clients' brands, businesses, and audiences to create highly engaging and high-performing experiences.
By collaborating with clients and 829's in-house team of designers, content strategists, developers, producers and account managers, you formulate a successful foundation for website architecture and ensure that it's upheld through both waterfall and agile processes. This position involves consistent client presentations and stakeholder management.
We are looking for someone who brings exceptional ideation skills to the table, is confident in owning presentations and deliverables, is highly collaborative and self-directed, and is an excellent communicator.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Strategic Client Facilitation: Develop relationships with clients. You know everything about your clients' goals, personalities, and priorities. Confidently communicate strategic rationale and research behind proposed directions and recommendations to client teams.
  • Ability to take on 4-5 projects concurrently; comfortable with fluid context shifting across domains and project details.
  • Upstream Business & Brand Strategy: Conduct qualitative and quantitative research around the client's brand, competitors, industry leaders, users, and analytics. This includes leading rigorous competitive research, comprehensive UX audits, and user behavior analysis utilizing Heatmaps and Google Analytics.
  • Robust UX Research: Execute end-to-end UX research (both qualitative and quantitative). You will conduct competitive, industry, and user research through in-depth interviews, workshops, surveys, user testing, and any other format that gets you the insights you need. You will lead survey creation and review, ensuring all questions are unbiased and yield statistically significant data.
  • Downstream UX Execution: Create the architectural foundation of large-scale websites. You will translate your insights into measurable website goals, define user personas, create user journey maps, and craft thorough sitemaps and information architecture. Additionally, you will build structural wireframes and user flows to seamlessly translate strategy into actionable layouts.
  • UX Best Practices: Ensure that protocols and principles of UX are being followed. Evolve processes, offerings, deliverable formats, and when you see opportunities to make improvements.

Must Haves
  • Agency Experience: 5+ years of experience - while we will consider candidates with client side experience, past work in an agency background is strictly required for this role.
  • Exceptional Presentation Skills: Exceptional communication, presentation and organizational skills. You must be highly adept at facilitating client workshops and commanding executive presence.
  • End-to-End Portfolio: A portfolio or previous work samples that clearly exhibits the ability to conduct research and translate your findings into strategic IA artifacts, including personas, research, user flows, sitemaps and wireframes.
  • Design Tool Mastery: Advanced Figma expertise for complex wireframing and prototyping.
  • Applied AI Expertise: Hands-on AI expertise, actively leveraging LLMs like Gemini, Claude, and ChatGPT to accelerate research synthesis, content ideation, and strategy workflows.
  • Data-Driven Mindset: Proven experience translating quantitative data from Google Analytics, heatmapping tools, and custom surveys into actionable UX recommendations.
  • Project Ownership: The ability to problem-solve, confidently make decisions and lead projects with empathy and authority.
  • Cross-Functional Acumen: An understanding of how websites are built using waterfall and agile processes, and the awareness to collaborate with designers, developers and other personnel when necessary. You should also have an understanding of integrated digital marketing and its various components, with the foresight and understanding to loop in additional marketing disciplines beyond Web when appropriate.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with SEO, writing, and content strategy.
  • Experience with Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) and Cro platforms.
