DTSC is hiring a Hazardous Substances Engineer in our Sacramento Cal Center Office to oversee essential site operations, site investigations, removal actions, remedial actions, data management, and activities related to project management for the Exide Residential Sampling and Cleanup Project. We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven, knowledgeable individual with excellent interpersonal, communication, and technical skills. As a Hazardous Substances Engineer you will have the opportunity to:

• Coordinate environmental investigations and cleanup activities at properties in communities surrounding the Exide Technologies facility in Vernon, California
• Manage and review the investigation and remediation tasks including but not limited to proposed project schedules and regulatory developments
• Oversee investigation and cleanup of properties with hazardous materials in accordance with CERCLA, Hazardous Substance Account Act (HSM), CEQA, DTSC's Policies and Procedures and the Project Management Plan including scheduling and tracking the progress of sampling and cleanup crews, management and evaluation of sampling data to determine cleanup priorities and providing written and graphical reports illustrating the progress and costs of the sampling and cleanup
• Research the ISO 9000 Quality Standards, existing Quality Manuals developed in accordance with ISO 9000 standards, Army Corp of Engineers Quality Assurance Manuals, and Caltrans Construction Quality Assurance and Independent Assurance Manuals for applicable standards and methods
• Review Letters of Closure (LOCs), evaluate the effectiveness of the remedial actions, and determine if remedial actions have been appropriately implemented
• Assist the Unit Chief or Senior HSE in the development and implementation of operations and maintenance plans and associated agreements

Working Conditions
Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month.
