Exhibits Manager information
What is the difference between Exhibits Manager vs Event Coordinator?
| Aspect | Exhibits Manager |
|---|
| Required Credentials | Relevant experience in exhibit design, project management, and industry-specific knowledge |
|---|---|
| Work Environment | Exhibit halls, trade shows, museums, or corporate event spaces |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Used by museums, trade show organizers, and corporate marketing teams |
| Common Search & Comparison | Often compared for roles involving exhibit setup, design, and management |
The Exhibits Manager primarily focuses on planning, designing, and overseeing exhibits for museums, trade shows, or corporate displays. In contrast, an Event Coordinator handles a broader range of events, including logistics, scheduling, and vendor management. While both roles require strong organizational skills, the Exhibits Manager specializes in exhibit-specific tasks, making their skills more tailored to display design and installation.

Job description
The opportunity
The Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM) seeks an Exhibit Coordinator to support the organization as it continues to build a robust exhibit schedule following capital updates and expansion of gallery spaces. The Exhibit Coordinator, reporting to the Exhibits Manager, will work cross-departmentally supporting JMM staff in exhibit development and execution. In this role, with the support of the Executive Director, the Deputy Director and Exhibits Manager, your responsibilities will include:
Main responsibilities
- Supports project development for gallery-based projects, including maintaining schedules, attending team meetings, articulating project goals and strategy briefs, and general administrative tasks.
- Supports the installation and maintenance of JMM galleries across the campus, taking an active role in the gallery preparations between exhibits and maintenance throughout the run of staged shows.
- Provides support for internal and external exhibit curators, most typically the latter.
- Assists in the development, production and installation of exhibit graphic elements.
- Assists in the asset procurement process, including image, film, and audio.
- Assists in loan processes, working with both institutions and private individuals.
What you will possess to be successful Â
- You will exemplify our team’s core value of continuous learning.
- You will partner with team members to develop agreed expectations about the work we need to accomplish to support and fulfill our mission and how the team will accomplish it.
- You will take an entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will evolve the organization and push the boundaries of the field.
- You will care and attend to the relational dynamics of work processes while caring for the quality of the product.
 Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor's degree preferred; alternatively, 1+ years of experience in a similar role
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) preferred
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of Jewish communal sector is a plus.
- Experience in cultural heritage is a plus.
- May require occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Requires extensive sitting, standing, and walking
- Must be willing to complete background checks as required by current or future contracts
- Experience working within a Jewish communal setting a plus
- Occasional Sunday and evening hours are required for this position.
Note on qualifications:
No one candidate will be perfect for this job. The skills and experience needed to be successful in this job exist on a spectrum. Frequently cited statistics show that candidates with disabilities, BIPOC candidates, women, and members of marginalized and/or systematically excluded groups apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. The Jewish Museum of Maryland is eager to leave that statistic in the past. If you are interested in this position, please apply.
What we offer:
- The hourly rate for this part-time position is $29.00, based on a sixteen-hour work week. Work schedules are developed in collaboration with supervisors within the Museum’s business hours. Part-time schedules are typically three or four days per week.
- This position includes 48 hours of vacation (representing three standard work weeks) and 28 hours of sick time (representing 1.75 standard work weeks) per year. Vacation and sick time are only to be applied toward established work schedules
- JMM staff are unionized within Teamsters Local 355. This is a bargaining unit position.
- We close the Museum for the following Jewish holidays when they fall within JMM business hours: Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, the first two days of Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret, Simchat Torah, Shavuot, and the first and last two days of Passover.
- We close the Museum for New Years Day, MLK Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and the day following Thanksgiving.
- We offer a work environment that supports professional development and collaboration.
What to expect:
- Step 1: Review of submissions and initial candidate pool formation.
- Step 2: Up to two interviews with JMM team members. References will be called for candidates under consideration after the second interview.
- Step 3: Final candidate selection. Placement is anticipated in May 2026. All applicants will be notified of their status after the final candidate has accepted the offer.
Please attach a resume/CV when applying. Cover letters are strongly encouraged and may include up to five links to work samples you have contributed to. Applications received by 11:59 EST on Sunday, June 21st, 2026, will receive priority consideration.
