Job description

We are seeking a Stationary Engineer to join our team. This position reports to the Operation Field Supervisor and is responsible for the safe operation of boilers and other process equipment on thermal remediation projects. This is a mid-level position in which you will operate as part of a team on a wide range of project and task assignments.
 
Major Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and behaviors, specifically relative to the company, employees, and clients. Promote teamwork and demonstrate a willingness to support company goals.
  • Maintain optimal operation of mechanical systems by performing routine inspections and maintenance, monitoring metering equipment, and adjusting levels as necessary.
  • Maintain equipment, perform daily inspections, cleanings, filter replacement, and all other tasks necessary to keep all components performing optimally; identify and repair or replace malfunctioning components.
  • Work closely with project management and engineering team.
  • Ensure safety by monitoring safety equipment, identifying concerns or potential issues, and taking the appropriate action to address the problem.
  • Perform necessary repairs and replacements, obtain replacement parts and upgrade components as needed while considering cost & system efficiency.
  • Work closely with site manager and or lead operator with monitoring tasks, scheduling tasks, providing appropriate instruction to less experienced colleagues, and giving constructive feedback on performance of system and team.
  • Maintain licenses and continue to be updated on current knowledge of all applicable safety laws and regulations to always ensure full compliance.
  • Maintain and keep current Equipment Service Reports and enter properly documented records of inspections, maintenance routines and repairs to equipment and any changes to the system.
  • Sustain up-to-date knowledge of developments in relevant technology and make recommendations for maximizing systems.
  • Periodically perform physical exertions including light-medium weight, lifting, pushing, pulling, stair or ladder climbing, and other construction/maintenance activities for 8-to-12-hour shifts.
Skills/Aptitudes:
  • Self-starter and ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • Experience with complex systems or industrial applications.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Good recordkeeping and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay focused and on task in chaotic environments.
Qualifications/Certifications:
  • Shall have graduated from a high school or have a GED diploma; and
  • Shall have been employed as a licensed boiler operator for five (5) years or have been an assistant to a licensed stationary engineer for at least three (3) years preceding the date of application, or shall have graduated as a mechanical engineer from an accredited engineering school; and
  • Shall have received a passing grade in a written, oral or practical examination administered by the chief examiner, as defined in section 14-90
  • Holders of a stationary engineer license shall be eligible to operate the following equipment:
    • Any stationary engine or prime mover of cumulative horsepower
    • Any refrigeration machinery
    • Steam or hot water boilers
    • Diesel generator
    • Air conditioning machinery
    • Hydraulics system
    • Gas generator
    • Steam turbine
  • A boiler operator or stationary engineer shall oversee all boilers, stationary engines, prime movers, diesel engines, gas engines, and steam turbines from 30 H.P. to 100 H.P.
  • A stationary engineer or a refrigeration machine operator shall oversee all refrigeration equipment and air conditioning equipment over one hundred (100) tons using Group 1 refrigerants; or refrigeration equipment of fifteen (15) tons or more using Group 2 and Group 3 refrigerants as defined in section 14-88©.
  • A stationary engineer shall oversee all boilers, stationary engines, prime movers, diesel engines, gas engines, and steam turbines over 100 HP.
