Minimum Qualifications


Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related discipline by the date of appointment.

Consideration may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Exercise Testing and Prescription, research Methods, and Experiential Learning/Capstone.

  • Postdoctoral research experience.

  • Professional certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (e.g., ACSM-EP, ACSM-CEP), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (e.g., CSCS), or another nationally recognized exercise science organization.

  • Evidence of collaborative scholarship or interdisciplinary research.

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Faculty in the department maintain active research programs across motor behavior, biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, athletic training, health behavior, and related disciplines. Research Environment


The Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health (KNH) offers a sophisticated, translational research infrastructure specifically designed to support high-impact Exercise Physiology. Our shared laboratory network facilitates seamless investigation across the physiological spectrum-from molecular pathways to systemic cardiometabolic and performance outcomes-providing an ideal environment for mechanistic, clinical, and applied research.

Core Research Infrastructure:

  • Human Integrative Physiology & Metabolism: Advanced capabilities for cardiometabolic phenotyping, including gold-standard indirect calorimetry (ParvoMedics TrueOne 2400), comprehensive body composition analysis (DEXA, InBody 770, ultrasound), and resting/exercise metabolic testing.
  • Vascular Physiology: Specialized infrastructure for hemodynamic assessment, featuring flow-mediated dilation, arterial stiffness analysis, microneurography, and continuous glucose monitoring to characterize vascular health.
  • Applied Exercise Testing: A large-capacity, adaptable space for clinical and physiological trials equipped with multiple treadmill and cycle ergometers, ECG systems, and on-site clinical chemistry diagnostics.
  • Molecular & Tissue Bioscience: A collaborative facility that integrates whole-body physiological data with cellular-level analysis, utilizing gene expression profiling (RT-PCR), histology, protein detection, and skeletal muscle tissue processing.
  • Pre-Clinical Opportunities: Use of the Laboratory Animal Resource (LAR) to conduct experimental physical activity and inactivity studies with rodents utilizing metabolic, behavioral, and functional phenotyping.

This integrated environment fosters a highly collaborative culture, providing faculty the flexibility to execute translational research and offer meaningful, hands-on training to undergraduate and graduate students.
