ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION & TECHNOLOGY
IT DEPARTMENT
MALCOLM X COLLEGE
Malcolm X College's (MXC) Office of Information Technology (OIT) mission is to support and improve student outcomes by providing an innovative technology environment that promotes and supports student success and improves teaching, learning, and operations.
Reporting to the Director - Information and Simulation Technology, the Associate Director -Information and Simulation Technology works with the Executive Director in the implementation and management of IT systems, computer hardware, and simulation instructional technologies as well as the delivery of IT support services to campus end-users to support the needs of the campus and its Virtual Hospital, Nursing, and Health Sciences.
As second in charge of the college's IT Department, the Associate Director - Information and Simulation Technology directs and supervises IT staff providing IT and instructional technology support and assistance and maintaining IT systems operations; manages day-to-day work operations; and ensures systems and networks operate optimally to provide maximum performance and availability to users and students/customers. Performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Works collaboratively with the Executive Director to implement strategies and manage customer and technical services support models that address the technical needs of the college.
• Manages the IT department's work teams and operations including instructional and simulation technology; Help Desk; computer labs: media/audio-visual, events, system management, and user support.
• Monitors workloads and staff performance to provide excellent IT services and support to campus students, faculty, and staff.
• Leads projects and works with district and campus IT staff to assess and enhance operational efficiencies of the college's computer systems, network, and wired and wireless infrastructure; resolve client issues and problems; and implement technical improvements to business processes.
• Oversees IT teams engaged in the preparation, maintenance, inventory, and operation of simulation equipment used in the college's Virtual Hospital, Nursing and Health Science labs.
• Coordinates with vendors for required servicing of computer systems and specialized simulation equipment.
• Facilitates training and professional development opportunities for staff to support skill development.
• Develops and conducts on-going user training sessions as required.
• Participates in the interviewing and selection of IT staff. Administers personnel actions and enforces personnel policies and procedures.
• Defines roles and responsibilities of employees and work teams. Monitors work performance and addresses performance issues.
• Assists in developing department's operating budget; reviews budget expenditures and provides recommendations for purchasing of IT and simulation equipment; monitors changes in technology to ensure optimal purchasing decisions.
• Responsible for the inventory of all computer and simulation technology equipment at the college.
• Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging trends in the use of simulation technology and virtual reality in health care education and IT systems, computer networks, and AV technologies.
• Participates in district and campus meetings.
• Available to provide system maintenance or end-user support outside of normal business hours.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
• Relevant certification required
• Four (4) years of supervisory and relevant IT work experience in an IT department
• Experience working in areas of instructional technology support, Help Desk and user support operations, or simulation technology and software highly desirable
• Advanced computer skills
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Experience working within a unionized setting preferred
• Ability to conceptualize and implement appropriate technical solutions
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in one's work experience
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Salary Range: $80,717- 85,000 per year
Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
