Job Summary/Description:
Southern Arizona's most-watched station, 13 News, is looking for a creative, passionate, detail-oriented morning Executive Producer to lead our team. We have talented and driven journalists whose leader will keep the big picture in mind while making daily editorial decisions and coaching future leaders of our newsroom. This is a great opportunity to serve our vibrant communities through meaningful journalism and impactful storytelling. This person will ensure the execution of the station's strong "Live, Local, Late Breaking" brand. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to driving daily and monthly metric goals that ensure consistent and steady growth across on-air newscasts. This is also a job that will foster a spirit of collaboration and team success!
Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Oversee the consistent creation of urgent, nimble, and local multiplatform content through strong leadership, quality control, and accountability
• Lead/actively participate in editorial discussions, review rundowns and scripts, and develop and amend coverage plans
• Demonstrate vision for the execution of the 13 News and First Alert Weather brands
• Collaborate with news leadership team to execute an effective content strategy across multiple dayparts and platforms
• Keep producers engaged and enriched through consistent, constructive feedback and training on rundowns, story selection, formats, graphic elements, and pace and flow of newscasts with an eye towards accuracy and promotable content
• Motivate team and execute news strategies and action plans
• Mentor and coach multi-media reporters/photographers to determine the direction of stories and expectations
• Oversee live on-air product during designated hours
• Collaborate on special projects and major event coverage
• Produce newscasts as needed (fill-in)
• Learn the skills needed to post news stories to our website, apps, and social media platforms for when our digital team needs assistance
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred, equivalent experience considered
• Minimum of 2 years in a line producing role
• Excellent news judgment, organizational, time management, and verbal and written communication skills are required
• Strong news background with the ability to make news judgments in high-pressure situations
• Scheduling flexibility required
• Must provide a link to examples of recent work that demonstrate the required skills listed above (e.g., producer or executive producer reel)
