THE ROLE
Surety Hotel is seeking an Area Director of Finance to lead all accounting and financial operations for our 137‑room Autograph Collection hotel in downtown Des Moines. With Aparium’s expanding portfolio, this role includes a defined growth path to expand oversight to the Millwork Hotel in Omaha (opening in 2027).
As Millwork comes online, this position will assume area‑level responsibility for both Surety Hotel and Millwork Hotel, providing financial leadership in Des Moines and Omaha.
This position serves as a key business partner to the General Manager, Executive Committee, and Aparium Finance team—balancing strategic financial leadership with hands‑on execution. You will be the go‑to resource for financial guidance, compliance, and education across the hotel.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead and oversee all hotel accounting and finance functions, ensuring GAAP compliance and alignment with AHLA Uniform System of Accounts
  • Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and financial analysis
  • Partner with hotel leadership and Aparium Finance to drive sound, data‑informed decisions
  • Ensure compliance with SOX, PCI, tax, and all regulatory and corporate requirements

  • Develop, coach, and mentor finance team members while supporting financial literacy across departments
  • Serve as a visible, collaborative leader with a strong presence in hotel operations
WHO YOU ARE
  • A strategic thinker who is also comfortable rolling up your sleeves
  • Collaborative, approachable, and trusted by leaders and associates alike
  • Passionate about people, culture, and building inclusive, high‑performing teams
  • Able to balance financial discipline with hospitality, service, and human connection
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance leadership experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Hospitality (preferred)
  • Hotel accounting experience and familiarity with AHLA standards strongly preferred
  • Flexibility to support month‑end and business needs
