Job description

Role: Lead Estimator – Heavy Civil Infrastructure

Location: Atlanta, GA

Compensation: $175-185k basic + Excellent Benefits


Job Overview:


Fabr Global is working in close partnership with the COO and VP of Operations of a well known regional general contractor in Atlanta, GA. The team is seeking an experienced Lead Estimator to join their growing preconstruction division. In this role, you will spearhead the estimation process for major heavy civil, transportation, and infrastructure projects across the region.


From airports to complex highway interchanges, structural concrete, and deep excavations, you will be the driving force behind their competitive bidding strategy. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of earthwork, paving, and structural infrastructure, combined with the leadership skills necessary to guide a team of estimators and secure high-value contracts.


Key Responsibilities


As the Lead Estimator, your core focus areas will include:

  • Bid Leadership: Manage and oversee the complete preparation of full-cost estimates for large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and compliance with RFP requirements.
  • Diverse Project Scopes: Quantify, analyze, and price complex scopes including Highways, Roads, Paving & Bridges.
  • Specialized Trade Estimating: Utilize deep technical knowledge to build accurate estimates for:
  • Earthwork & Site Prep: Bulk excavation, shoring, and piling.
  • Paving: Asphalt and concrete paving.
  • Utilities: Storm drainage systems and underground infrastructure.
  • Structures: Structural concrete and bridge components.
  • Subcontractor & Vendor Management: Solicit, review, and negotiate quotes from subcontractors and material vendors to ensure optimal pricing and scope coverage.
  • Risk Analysis & Strategy: Identify potential project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and present final bid proposals to executive leadership during bid-review meetings.
  • Software Utilization: Leverage industry-standard estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, B2W, AGTEK, or Bluebeam) to build efficient, historical data-driven models.


Qualifications & Requirements


  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in heavy civil infrastructure estimating, with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Proven track record of successfully bidding public and private infrastructure projects ranging from $10M to $100M+ (GDOT experience is a major plus).
  • Strong mastery of earthwork takeoffs, structural concrete, asphalt/concrete paving methodologies, and deep foundation systems (shoring/piling).
  • Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid (preferred), Bluebeam, and digital takeoff software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (equivalent field experience will be heavily considered).
  • Strong analytical mindset, sharp negotiation skills, excellent communication, and the ability to thrive under tight bid deadlines.
