ROLE AT A GLANCE:
The Director, Executive Communications serves as the central owner of executive storytelling and visibility across internal and external platforms, with a primary focus on the CEO and full C suite. This role is responsible for shaping, aligning, and executing a cohesive executive narrative that reinforces company strategy, builds trust, and drives engagement across employees, distributors, investors, media, and other key stakeholders.
The Director oversees critical executive visibility channels including earnings communications, internal leadership platforms, executive social presence, and key speaking and thought leadership moments, while also leading enterprise wide internal communications. Partnering closely with Corporate Communications, Marketing, HR, Legal, Finance, Investor Relations, and Brand, this leader ensures that executive communications are clear, consistent, modern, and effective across every touchpoint.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT:
• Own end to end executive communications for the full C suite, with priority focus on the CEO, including speeches, town halls, written messages, video scripts, and strategic presentations.
• Lead executive communications for quarterly earnings and other major financial moments, including CEO scripts, press releases, Q&A documents, and cross functional messaging alignment with Finance and Investor Relations.
• Develop, codify, and continuously refine a cohesive executive narrative and message platform that is tightly aligned to corporate strategy and cascades consistently across the C suite.
• Own and modernize internal communications and executive leadership platforms (e.g., enterprise wide emails, intranet, internal video, leadership forums) to drive clarity, engagement, and relevance for employees and distributors.
• Shape and manage the online personas of key executives, overseeing executive social media strategy and content (with a focus on LinkedIn and other relevant channels) to enhance visibility, credibility, and thought leadership.
• Partner cross functionally with Legal, Finance, Investor Relations, HR, Marketing, Brand, and regional leaders to ensure executive communications are aligned, accurate, and compliant, and reflect a global, culturally aware perspective.
• Lead the creation and ongoing management of an executive communications content ecosystem, including bios, data points, key messages, FAQs, talking points, and modular content that can be leveraged across channels and markets.
• Gather and analyze feedback and performance data (e.g., engagement, sentiment, digital metrics, event feedback) to optimize executive and internal communications strategies, content, and channels.
• Act as a trusted advisor and coach to senior leaders on message development, delivery, and executive presence, helping them show up with clarity, authenticity, and impact in both written and spoken formats.
• Manage multiple, high priority projects in a fast paced environment, including supporting crisis and issues communications that require a CEO or executive response.
• Additional duties as assigned.
LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage and develop one Internal Communications Manager and one Social Media Specialist, providing coaching, direction, and feedback to ensure high quality work and professional growth.
• Oversee agency, contractor, and freelance partners as needed to extend capacity and capabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
Experience
• 10+ years of progressive experience in executive communications, speechwriting, corporate communications, public affairs, or a related field, with significant exposure to C suite or senior leader clients.
• Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editing skills, with a strong portfolio demonstrating speeches, executive emails, long form content, and digital/social content for senior leaders.
• Proven ability to capture and adapt the voice of different executives and write for multiple audiences (employees, distributors/partners, investors, media, regulators, etc.).
• Experience shaping and managing executive digital presence (e.g., LinkedIn, blogs, online thought leadership), including content calendars and performance measurement.
• Strong strategic thinking skills; able to quickly grasp complex business issues and translate them into clear narratives and messages.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and discretely with highly confidential and sensitive information.
• Comfort operating in a fast paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and executive presence; able to influence and build trust with senior leaders.
• Experience in global organizations or matrixed environments, collaborating across regions and functions.
• Background in [nutrition / health / consumer products / your sector] or another highly regulated industry.
• Experience with change management communications, M&A, or transformation initiatives.
• Familiarity with social media analytics tools and basic understanding of SEO and content performance best practices.
Skills/Certifications
• Executive Judgment & Presence: Demonstrates discretion, confidence, and sound judgment in high stakes, high visibility environments; trusted by senior leaders.
