The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is one of the nation’s leading national racial justice legal organizations. Formed in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy, the Lawyers’ Committee uses legal advocacy to achieve racial justice, fighting inside and outside the courts to ensure that Black people and other people of color have the voice, opportunity, and power to make the promises of our democracy real.
The Lawyers’ Committee has litigation, public policy, and advocacy programs in the substantive areas of Voting Rights, Election Protection, Digital Justice, Economic Justice, Criminal Justice, Economic Opportunities, and Fair Housing.  The organization advances its mission as the premier organization marshaling the resources of the private bar alongside our own talented staff, with over 1 million pro bono hours billed to our cases and matters over the past decade.
Job Title: Executive Assistant to the President and Executive Director

About the Role:
The Executive Assistant will be a primary strategic partner and force multiplier for the President and Executive Director.  This role requires exceptional executive functioning skills to anticipate the President/Executive Director’s needs, manage their time efficiently and productively, and execute complex administrative and tactical duties with precision.
What You’ll be Doing:
Responsibilities of Executive Assistant include but are not limited to:
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all internal and external inquiries, protecting the President/Executive Director’s time and prioritizing requests based on their strategic goals.
  • Manage a complex, high-volume calendar.  Proactively identify and address scheduling conflicts and ensure buffer time is integrated for deep work and travel transitions.
  • Make certain the President/Executive Director is appropriately briefed for meetings, to include gathering materials in advance that sufficiently provide relevant and accurate information.
  • Partner with the Communications Team to coordinate and produce executive and internal communications, including speeches, remarks, and other internal and external communications as needed.
  • Partner with the Development Team to prepare for donor engagements, cultivation, briefings, and travel.
  • Design and maintain systems for tracking tasks, action items, and deadlines across multiple and concurrent work and programmatic streams.
  • Coordinate intricate travel itineraries, including fights, lodging, ground transportation, and meal reservations.
  • Coordinate and organize internal and external meetings, including notifying attendees, reserving conference rooms, handling logistics, drafting and distributing agendas, and taking minutes as needed.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and briefings for the President/Executive Director as necessary; track progress on the President/Executive Director’s key initiatives, following up with appropriate staff and external partners on statuses and deliverables.
  • Attend high-level or other assigned meetings with the President/Executive Director to take notes or minutes and ensure follow-up actions and items are completed by appropriate staff.
  • Handle highly sensitive information with absolute discretion and professional integrity.
  • Be available for evening and weekend events, as needed, to support the President/Executive Director; perform administrative and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and at least 8 years of experience providing direct support to C-Suite Executives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to mirror the President/Executive Director’s voice and tone.
  • Superior ability in task initiation, emotional regulation, working memory, and cognitive flexibility.
  • Experience gathering information to make thoughtful and quality procedural decisions/judgments.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including experience in project management.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, anticipatory decision-making skill, and self-starter.
  • Professionalism and diplomatic skills.
  • Ability to interact with high-level individuals internally and externally.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment.
  • Consistent exercise of sound judgment.
  • Flexible and adaptable in various situations and when interacting with many different personalities.
  • Ability to multitask and juggle numerous projects and tasks.
  • Proficient in MS Office, in particular, advanced MS Outlook scheduling.
  • Experience with project management software and other business-related databases.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with a diverse community.
  • Strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information.
  • Ability to work long hours and travel up to 20% of the time, as needed.
