What is an executive assistant project manager?

An Executive Assistant Project Manager is a professional who supports executives by managing administrative tasks and also takes on project management responsibilities. This dual role involves organizing schedules, handling communications, coordinating meetings, and ensuring that projects are planned, executed, and completed efficiently. They bridge the gap between executive leadership and project teams, helping to keep projects on track while also providing high-level administrative support. Their skill set includes organization, communication, multitasking, and knowledge of project management tools or methodologies.

How does an executive assistant project manager typically balance administrative responsibilities with project management tasks?

Executive Assistant Project Managers often navigate a dynamic mix of supporting executive leadership while also coordinating projects. They may spend part of their day managing schedules, organizing meetings, and handling communications, and the other part developing project timelines, tracking progress, and facilitating collaboration between teams. Effective prioritization and clear communication are key to balancing these responsibilities. Most organizations support this hybrid role with project management tools and regular check-ins, ensuring tasks are organized and deadlines are met without neglecting executive support duties.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an executive assistant project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Executive Assistant Project Manager, you need strong organizational skills, multitasking abilities, project management knowledge, and experience supporting executives, often backed by a degree in business or a related field. Exceptional communication, discretion, and problem-solving abilities set top performers apart in this hybrid role. These skills are crucial for efficiently coordinating complex projects while providing seamless executive support, ensuring organizational objectives are met.

Can an executive assistant be a project manager?

An executive assistant can develop project management skills and take on project coordination tasks, but typically they are not formally designated as project managers unless they acquire relevant certifications like PMP and gain experience in project planning and execution. The roles require different core responsibilities, with project managers focusing on leading projects and executive assistants providing administrative support.

Teamwork makes the stream work. Roku is changing how the world watches TV

Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we've set our sights on powering every television in the world. Roku pioneered streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.

From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.

What is the role?

As an Executive Assistant for Roku's Devices Leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in driving efficiency and effectiveness for senior executives across product, engineering, technology, and operations functions. This position goes beyond traditional calendar management โ€” it requires serving as a trusted partner who enables leaders to focus on high-impact initiatives while ensuring the seamless execution of critical business operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thrives in ambiguity, and can confidently navigate shifting priorities with discretion and professionalism. You will provide proactive support by anticipating needs, streamlining communication, and coordinating complex logistics across global time zones. This highly visible role is integral to the fast-paced Devices organization, requiring strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and a solutions-oriented mindset. This is a non-exempt position supporting multiple executives within the Devices leadership team and will be hybrid.

How will I use AI at Roku?

At Roku, we embrace AI as a tool to enhance productivity and innovation across all functions. Whether you're streamlining administrative workflows, optimizing scheduling, or finding new ways to manage projects more efficiently, you'll be encouraged to leverage AI-powered solutions in your day-to-day work.

As part of our AI-first culture, you'll have opportunities to explore and adopt AI tools that support your role. Roku provides resources and training to help every team member integrate AI into their processes, driving smarter decision-making and greater impact across the organization.

What are the responsibilities of the role?
  • Act as a strategic partner to Roku's Devices leadership, optimizing their time and enabling high-impact decision-making
  • Manage complex calendars, travel arrangements, and meeting logistics, ensuring seamless scheduling across multiple time zones
  • Prioritize competing demands, exercising sound judgment to keep executives focused on the highest-priority work
  • Track and drive key action items, ensuring follow-through on high-priority initiatives
  • Support leadership meetings by preparing agendas, capturing minutes, and managing follow-ups to ensure progress
  • Serve as a liaison between executives, direct reports, and external partners to streamline communication and coordination
  • Plan and execute leadership off-sites, team events, and key business meetings, ensuring a seamless experience for internal and external stakeholders
  • Handle confidential information with professionalism, integrity, and discretion
  • Create purchase orders and review and approve invoices for vendor payments as needed
  • Provide backup coverage for various administrative functions as needed
What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?
  • 3+ years of experience as an Executive Assistant or in a related support role working with senior leadership
  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to anticipate needs and proactively solve problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface confidently across all organizational levels and with external partners
  • Experience working within technology, hardware, or consumer electronics industries
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and productivity tools such as Confluence and Slack, with the ability to adapt to new systems quickly
  • A track record of managing executive priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • A solutions-oriented mindset with a passion for driving efficiency and impact
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
What's Roku's approach to hybrid working?

Roku fosters an inclusive and collaborative environment where teams generally work in the office Monday through Thursday. Fridays are generally flexible for remote work, except for employees whose specific roles or assigned office location require five days' a week attendance.

What are some of the benefits?

Roku is committed to offering a diverse range of benefits as part of our compensation package to support our employees and their families. Our comprehensive benefits include global access to mental health and financial wellness support and resources. Local benefits include statutory and voluntary benefits which may include healthcare (medical, dental, and vision), life, accident, disability, commuter, and retirement options (401(k)/pension). Employees are supported in taking time off, in accordance with local leave policies and other personal needs to support their evolving work and life needs. It's important to note that not every benefit is available in all locations or for every role. For details specific to your location, please consult with your recruiter.

Accommodations

Roku welcomes applicants of all backgrounds and provides reasonable accommodations and adjustments in accordance with applicable law.

If you require reasonable accommodation at any point in the hiring process, please direct your inquiries to EmployeeRelations@Roku.com.

What should I know about Roku's culture?

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
