Job description

Position Summary
The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating the safe, compliant, and efficient transportation and distribution of fuel and propane products. This role ensures timely delivery to customers, effective fleet utilization, regulatory compliance (DOT, OSHA, and hazardous materials), and accurate inventory management across bulk plants and delivery routes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and dispatch fuel and propane deliveries to residential, commercial, and industrial customers
  • Coordinate daily routing of transport trucks and bobtails to maximize efficiency and meet delivery windows
  • Monitor inventory levels at bulk plants, storage tanks, and customer sites to prevent runouts
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, hazmat handling requirements, and company safety policies
  • Prepare and maintain documentation including bills of lading, delivery tickets, and regulatory reports
  • Communicate with drivers, plant operators, and sales teams regarding delivery status and priorities
  • Track shipments and respond to delays, weather disruptions, or equipment issues
  • Optimize routes and loads to improve fuel efficiency and reduce operating costs
  • Support seasonal demand planning (e.g., winter heating demand spikes)
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, inventory, and transportation activities
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules and availability of transport vehicles with fleet teams

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of logistics, dispatch, or transportation experience (fuel, propane, or hazardous materials preferred)
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations, hazardous materials transportation, and safety practices
  • Experience with dispatch software, routing systems, or ERP platforms
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with drivers and customers
