Position Overview:
The Exception Desk Analyst (Non-QM) is responsible for reviewing and administering guideline exception requests, managing communication between sales, underwriting, secondary, and the exception desk, assisting with product development initiatives, and supporting the exception desk.
Job Responsibilities:
• Review and disposition of guideline exception requests.
• Ensure all guideline exception disposition terms (pricing hits, min rates, pricing caps, underwriting conditions) are accurately communicated and tracked within Encompass.
• Track and ensure consistency in exception disposition for a loan's entire lifecycle, from scenario evaluation to file submission to underwriting.
• Monitor communications between sales, underwriting, secondary, and the exception desk to ensure adherence to SLAs; this includes daily/weekly reviews, reminders, and working with the team to prioritize requests.
• Develop and maintain a set of frequently asked questions and responses, which can be used to identify potential guideline clarifications and/or enhancements, and opportunities to better train sales and/or underwriting.
• Identify noteworthy guideline exceptions and collaborate with the marketing department and sales leadership to highlight these loans to the sales force.
• Document, maintain, and update exception desk policies and procedures as needed.
• Identify operational improvements to exception processes to better architect the desk for scalability and improved SLAs.
• Collaborate with product development team to ensure underwriting guidelines, including proprietary loan products, are maintained across multiple origination channels and have up to date information.
• Perform guideline gap analysis against competitor product offerings and identify areas of potential improvement.
• Assist in general exception administration and product development related tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in related field, preferred.
• Minimum of five years' work experience in the mortgage industry or a related field.
• Experience with Non-QM mortgages, preferred.
• Encompass software experience, preferred.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
• Excellent prioritization skills and attention to detail.
