Overview

Reporting to the bakery director, the health, safety and environment specialist provides daily support. Emphasis is placed on the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety programs through regular audits, production of action plans, identification of key risks and hazards, production of reports and collaboration with operations managers to ensure full compliance. This is a position mainly in the field (high visibility/field presence), spending at least 50% of the time on the production floor in order to supervise team members.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures occupational health and safety compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Ensures environmental compliance and liaises with local authorities
  • Actively coaches managers regarding leadership behaviors to improve communication , safety behaviors and prevention activities during production activities to improve and achieve a goal of zero accidents
  • Actively participates in risk analyses, audits and site inspections to identify risks and hazards
  • Coordinates activities relating to the specific institutional health program (PSSE), such as noise and dust measurements and ensures follow-ups
  • Coordinates and attends CPSST meetings as an expert advisor
  • Actively participates in the investigation and analysis of accidental events, such as analyzing direct and indirect causes of events and providing recommendations for appropriate corrective and preventive measures
  • Provides practical guidance to managers and team members regarding the incident reporting/investigation program to ensure company standards and processes are met
  • Works with our partners to share best practices related to health and safety and jointly manages the return to work program
  • Investigates/researches, recommends and implements health and safety best practices
  • Produces relevant statistics for managers regarding accidents, trends
  • Leads internal training with the operations team and ensures knowledge transfer
  • Support in the management of CNESST files with our external partner and communicate with internal managers and employees to ensure sound management of complaints
  • Work closely with internal team and HR partners to determine tasks for temporary assignment, light duty and return to work schedules

Requirements

  • Three to five years of prior experience in a manufacturing production environment working in an occupational health and safety role Proven competence in promoting a healthy and safe environment
  • Proven skills in a facilitator role, verbal and written communication as well as superior interpersonal and organizational skills required to provide training and coaching to teams and individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Flexibility to cover shifts, as needed.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines and where attention to detail and effective multitasking are essential
  • Bilingual French/English for Quebec sites.
