Job description

One of the Triangle's top event spaces seeks positive and proactive folks to join the Rentals Team! Rentals and Events Associates provide exemplary customer service to Museum guests at private rental events. Associates can earn even more when they take part in event set-up and break-down.

These roles are perfect for those looking to supplement their income by picking up part time hours on nights and weekends, with some daytime hours available.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service to all private rental attendees by anticipating guest needs and being knowledgeable about the Museum facility, exhibits, and events.
  • Execute the set-up of weddings and private rental events on the day they are scheduled, including but not limited to setting up tables and chairs, assisting with decorations as needed and providing entrance support into Museum facilities for clients and vendors.
  • Assist clients and guests as needed during the event by answering questions about the Museum and rental events, ensuring clients and guests stay in the area(s) rented, and maintaining the cleanliness of the facility as needed.
  • Maintain a warm, friendly, safe Museum environment, monitoring Museum exhibits and spaces, ensuring that NC ABC Laws, Durham County smoking ordinance, and applicable Museum policies are maintained and enforced.
  • Transport guests, staff, and vendors in golf cart as needed.
  • Lead specialty programming when provided the appropriate training.
  • Support the clean-up of private rental events, including but not limited to bussing tables, removing trash and recycling, resetting exhibits, breaking down tables and chairs, ensuring clients, guests, and vendors leave the facility as they found it and with all of their belongings.
  • Follow Museum procedures for emergencies by assisting the Emergency Coordinator and other Museum staff in emergency situations as directed.
  • Take direction from and support the event's Manager on Duty with other duties as needed.
  • This position is scheduled as needed for day of support at events. Schedules must be flexible since rentals can occur 7 days per week both during operational hours of 9am-5pm as well as after hours from 5pm-1am.
  • Always demonstrate adherence to Museum safety procedures.
  • Engage with Museum visitors in a positive and helpful way to support an enjoyable and safe guest experience.
  • Prioritize the Museum’s values of compassion, community, collaboration, critical & creative Thinking in all interactions with staff, volunteers, and guests.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1+ years’ customer service experience
  • Works well independently, with keen observation skills and desire to be proactive about visitor needs and guest environment
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies with provided training
  • Available to work late evenings and weekends
  • Capable of working outside in changing weather conditions
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and lift to 25 lbs.
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • Able and willing to embrace our mission of sparking curiosity and respect for nature and science

Desired:

  • Previous event day-of experience
  • Basic AV setup experience

Variable Payrate:

  • $15/hr for event support shifts
  • $18/hr for shifts in which associate completes event setups and breakdowns
