Position Description

Reporting to the Project Executive, the Project Manager specializes in mass timber projects produced at our facilities in Spokane, WA; Conway, AR; and Penticton, BC. The Project Manager oversees the full project lifecycle, from engineering and fabrication design through final delivery. Responsibilities include defining scopes of work during early design stages to optimize mass timber utilization. This position location is flexible, it can be based at our head office in Vancouver or at any of our production facilities, depending on the candidate’s location, and requires approximately 10–15% travel to project sites across North America.


Responsibilities

  • Establish comprehensive budgets and contract prices (GMP/Lump Sum).
  • Participate in RFP response efforts and project interviews.
  • Coordinate effectively with Engineering, Fabrication Design, Manufacturing, and Construction teams to ensure alignment and collaboration across all phases of the project.
  • Negotiate change orders for clients and subcontractors with the Risk Manager.
  • Maintain cost control ledgers and track job costs against budgets.
  • Collaborate with the MMT Finance team to prepare billing/lien waivers and ensure timely payments by following up with General Contractors/Owners.
  • Solicit, draft, and negotiate cost-effective subcontract and material purchases, emphasizing quality and cost efficiency.
  • Manage vendor coordination, ensure timely buyouts, shop drawing approvals, and efficient material delivery in alignment with project schedules.
  • Prepare and oversee project schedules using MS Project or other MMT scheduling software, ensuring accuracy and adherence to timelines.
  • Develop delivery schedules and site logistics with Superintendents and Contractors.
  • Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with General Contractors, Owners, Architects, Engineers of Record, and applicable Subcontractors.
  • Assist in preconstruction efforts and oversee the completion of preconstruction deliverables in line with project schedules.
  • Ensure timely issuance of product/design submittals to General Contractors/Owners according to the project Submittal Log.
  • Facilitate the issuance of RFIs to General Contractors/Owners as required for clarity and resolution.
  • Lead regular project meetings and document key minutes and events.
  • Review Project Contracts/Purchase Orders, ensuring strict compliance with terms and conditions.
  • Document and archive all project-related events, such as accidents, delays, and Change Orders, ensuring comprehensive records.
  • Manage project claims and conflicts as they arise, implementing effective resolution strategies.
  • Supervise and mentor Project Engineers and clerical staff, fostering their professional development.
  • Oversee completion of all project close-out procedures, including retention if applicable, ensuring the project reaches its full or enhanced fee potential.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports to management for informed decision-making.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects to company standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Experience

  • 7+ years of substantial experience as a Project Manager in the Construction Industry.
  • Prior experience in Mass Timber projects is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience as a Preconstruction Manager, Construction Manager or a similar role in the commercial/industrial manufacturing industry.
  • Expertise in cost estimating, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Proficient in utilizing software such as Bluebeam, Excel, fundamental knowledge of MS Project or P6 scheduling, and familiarity with Procore or similar Construction Management Programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Resilience, ability, and desire to mentor, lead and grow the Mercer Mass Timber team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a sense of urgency.
  • Basic understanding of contract law and project accounting.
  • Comprehensive experience managing general contractor projects from project inception through project completion is considered an asset.


Salary & Benefits

  • The salary for this position is $90,000 - $110,000USD. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
