SUMMARY:

The Wound Care Program Manager is a clinical expert responsible for the advancement of evidence-based wound, ostomy, and skin integrity practices. This role provides leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of a healthy skin program and patients with alterations in skin integrity. There will be a strong emphasis on prevention, quality outcomes, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Serving as a consultant, educator, and change agent, the Wound Care Clinical Program Manager partners with nursing, medical staff, and interprofessional teams to optimize patient outcomes, reduce hospital-acquired conditions, and ensure alignment with regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Practice & Consultation

  • Serves as the system clinical expert in wound, ostomy, and skin integrity management.
  • Provides consultation for complex wounds, ostomies, pressure injuries, and skin integrity concerns.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient-centered care plans.
  • Promotes early identification and prevention strategies to reduce hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) and other skin conditions.

Program Development & Quality Outcomes

  • Leads development, implementation, and evaluation of wound care and prevention
  • Monitors and analyzes wound-related quality metrics (e.g., HAPI rates, device-related pressure injuries).
  • Partners with quality, safety, and nursing leadership to drive improvements in patient outcomes.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Reviews, investigates, and responds to events entered into the safety reporting system.

Education & Professional Development

  • Designs and delivers education programs using adult learning principles to improve competency in wound care management.
  • Develops and validates clinical competencies related to wound care, ostomy care, and skin assessment in collaboration with nursing professional development managers.
  • Serves as a resource and mentor to clinical staff, supporting certification (e.g., WOCN) and professional growth.
  • Supports onboarding, ongoing education, and just-in-time training related to skin integrity practices.

Evidence-Based Practice & Innovation

  • Promotes and translates evidence-based practice into clinical care to improve outcomes.
  • Participates in research, quality improvement, and innovation initiatives related to wound care.
  • Evaluates emerging products, technologies, and best practices to enhance care delivery.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Collaborates with system and entity leaders to align wound care practices across settings.
  • Participates in committees, councils, and interdisciplinary teams focused on skin integrity and patient safety.
  • Supports professional governance structures, including unit-based and specialty councils.
  • Leads or supports implementation of system initiatives and practice changes.
  • Acts as preceptor and mentor to new wound care nurses and students
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Works in a clinical environment requiring frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • May require travel between system entities

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in applicable state(s)
  • Wound, Ostomy, and Continence certification (CWOCN) required or obtained within 6 months from date of hire
  • BLS certification required

Pay Range:
