Job description

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

No experience required.  Current BCLS, Board Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist-or-Satisfactory completion of an Accredited Polysomnography Training Program -or-Satisfactory completion of the Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP), and- Registered in Sleep Technology through one of the following organizations: The American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM),The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) ,The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), or an equivalent examination accepted by AASM.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position works under limited supervision to perform advanced technical skills in the performance of comprehensive polysomnographic testing, analysis, evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.  This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient education. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study tracing quality to ensure that signals are artifact-free and makes adjustments as necessary. 
  • Gathers, analyzes, and collects patient information in an effort to meet patient specific needs in conjunction with Sleep Disorders Center protocols.
  • Prepares a summary of technical findings for interpretation by a sleep specialist by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age specific care and perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic testing on pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Prepares and calibrates equipment used for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments if necessary.
  • Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
  • Follows procedural protocols to ensure the proper collection of appropriate data.
  • Responds to patient's procedural-related questions by providing appropriate information and education (i.e. mask fitting, PAP devices).
  • Provides assistance to rotating students, interns, and residents.
  • Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times.
  • Assists the Program Manager with the maintenance of the Sleep Disorders Center accreditation via the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) through standardized protocols and quality measures (i.e. inter-scorer reliability).
  • Is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of sleep medicine and evolving sleep-specific technologies, skills, and policies.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.

Nights; 6:30p - 8a (Work one shift per wk, will cover all locations)
