Student Programs is looking for an energetic, creative,ย and collaborative intern toย assistย with events and the Coastal Virginia Leadership Council around all initiatives and annual events that engage elementary to university students throughout Hampton Roads.ย ย We need someone who can help with planningย preparation, set-up, breakdown,ย and follow-upย forย theย regional middle school dodgeball tournament, regional high school Gloย Danceย and our 20thย year of the Shamrock Operation Smile Final Mile.ย ย ย  The planning of Spread the Love, which is an annual campaign built around an outpouring of love in schools, community,ย and our world,ย is also a regional initiative.ย ย This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community outreach, event planning,ย and public relations within a global nonprofit organization.ย 

Intern Qualifications and Skills Required:ย 

  • Detail-oriented with strongย organization skillsย ย 

  • Experience interfacingย with elementary, middle, high school,ย university age students, as well as engaging withย parents and educatorsย at events.ย ย 

  • Comfortable with public speakingย 

  • Create flyers and other promotional material necessary for successful marketing of events.ย ย This will be in collaboration at times with student leaders.ย 

  • Confidence to call and/or be in person with local businesses to secureย sponsorshipsย and/or in-kind donations for events.ย ย ย 

  • Ability toย workย ย collaborativelyย in a team-oriented environment.ย 

Experience Required:

  • Attendance at an accredited university working towards an undergraduateor graduate degree
  • Marketing and Communications classes are desired
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office,Canva, and social media platforms
