We are seeking a dependable and enthusiastic Individual Supports Professional to support a female individual who lives at home with a family member in Monmouth County. Evening and weekend hours are flexible, as needed. This position may be with New Horizons in Autism or SSNY Cares.
TITLE: Individual Supports Professional (IS)
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position reports directly to the individual supports Supervisor. This is a full-time, forty-hour per week, and/or part-time position. You will be required to provide individual support services to people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities requiring aid with activities, daily requirements, and/or the development or acquisition of skills.
The Individual Support Professional is also responsible for creating a safe, positive, and encouraging atmosphere for the service recipients. They work closely with the service recipients to enhance their decision-making skills and encourage them to engage in more activities that will help strengthen their physical and mental health. Individual Support Professionals often teach service recipients how to complete specific tasks independently, promoting a more independent and satisfying lifestyle.
The individual support Professional will provide services in or out of the home for an individual who resides in an unlicensed setting and/or licensed setting.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED:
- Individual Support Professionals will assist in driving, personal care, ISP books, ISP goals and objectives, implementing behavior plans, monitoring the individuals, assisting with lunch preparation, community integration, pre-vocational skills training, completing tasks, needs and health status, and perform tasks to support this condition and tend to their needs.
- Individual Support Professionals perform basic housekeeping duties that the service recipients are unable to complete, like cleaning, meal preparation, transporting service recipients to appointments or other social outings, and keeping service recipients safe from potential health hazards in their surrounding environment.
- Individual Support Professionals are required to follow a daily schedule of activities that have been designed to assist all service recipients with outlining their day. All Individual Support Professionals must also remember the slogan “safety first” and be the best safety manager that they can be.
- Individual Support Professional’s that have driving privileges based on the organizations insurance matrix system will transport the service recipients from there residential setting to the individual’s day program as per their schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience: One year of experience in a vocationally oriented day program or special education program, and/or a residential program working with service recipients with autism.
- Communication Skills: Must be able to respectfully communicate well both verbally and in writing with our individuals, all levels of staff, family members, and community partners.
- Judgment/Initiative: Must be able to use good judgment in dealing with individuals’ issues/emergencies, as well as staff-related concerns. Must work well to maintain a good working relationship with supervisors.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Employment is contingent on clearing the state-required criminal background check, central registry, child abuse registry, and drug testing.
- Current, valid New Jersey Driver’s License is required. A current, valid driver’s license from another state may be acceptable for no longer than three months. New Horizons in Autism uses a driving matrix to determine eligibility for operating the company vehicle. Based on the Supports Program Policies and Procedures Manual, the driver's abstract cannot exceed 5 points.
- Successful completion of all DDD’s System Mandatory Training Bundles at the time of hire or within 90 days of employment
- Must be 20 years of age or older.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
