What is an Evening Software Tester job?

An Evening Software Tester is responsible for evaluating software applications outside of standard business hours to identify bugs, usability issues, and performance problems. This role ensures that software functions correctly by executing test cases, documenting defects, and collaborating with developers to improve quality. It is ideal for those who prefer working late hours or need a flexible schedule. Testers may work manually or use automated tools to conduct their assessments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Evening Software Tester position, and why are they important?

To excel as an Evening Software Tester, you typically need experience in software quality assurance, knowledge of test methodologies, and proficiency in scripting or test automation tools, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Selenium, JIRA, or TestRail, and certifications like ISTQB, are commonly expected. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills are crucial soft skills in this role. These capabilities help ensure reliable software releases, clear bug reporting, and effective collaboration with daytime and remote development teams.

What are the typical work hours and team structure for an Evening Software Tester position?

Evening Software Tester roles usually involve working during late afternoon and evening hours, often to provide coverage across multiple time zones or to align with project deadlines. You will typically be part of a quality assurance team, collaborating closely with software developers, project managers, and sometimes customer support representatives. While some positions may require onsite presence, many offer remote or hybrid arrangements. Working in this shift can provide opportunities to tackle high-priority testing tasks, participate in regression or smoke tests after new deployments, and communicate findings to both local and international team members. This schedule can offer flexibility and the chance to play a key role in ensuring software stability around critical release times.

Job description

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong Rust and Python expertise and a product-focused mindset to help build a new class of AI-powered transpilation and code generation tools. These tools bridge the gap between algorithm development and embedded deployment, leveraging the latest in Generative AI, Static Analysis and Formal Verification.

This is more than a backend role, we're seeking engineers who can think end-to-end:

from understanding user needs and UX, to delivering robust and scalable systems across the full stack.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Rust and Python.
  • Strong experience delivering entire software products, not just isolated servicesย you understand how frontend, backend and APIs come together.
  • Product-oriented mindset - you think about UX, system behavior and real-world impact.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with design, product and sometimes even customers.
  • Strong software engineering practices: version control, code review, testing, continuous integration and deployment.
  • Previous experience with greenfield projects and production build experience
Why Code Metal?
  • Mission with impact: your visuals steer the conversations that shape tomorrow's force.
  • Velocity: tight loops, tiny teams - design in the morning, deploy by evening.
  • Ownership: no spectators - every engineer ships code that matters.

Benefits

  • Health care plan with 100% premium coverage, including medical, dental, and vision.
  • 401k with 5% matching.
  • Paid Time Off (Uncapped Vacation, plus Sick & Public Holidays).
  • Flexible hybrid work arrangement.
  • Relocation assistance for qualifying employees.
