Job description

About the Role

The Outreach & Communications Coordinator serves as Academie Lafayette's primary ambassador to prospective families and the broader Kansas City community, while also functioning as the organizational voice that keeps our current school community informed, connected, and engaged. This role blends admissions, outreach, event coordination, and communications into one dynamic position for a candidate who is organized, people-centered, and deeply committed to our French-language immersion mission.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the first point of contact for prospective families - conducting tours, responding to inquiries, and guiding families through the admissions and enrollment process from initial interest through enrollment confirmation
  • Administer the open enrollment and lottery process, maintain enrollment records, and ensure compliance with Missouri charter school enrollment policies
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, pre-K programs, and feeder organizations to support recruitment goals, with a focus on reaching historically underrepresented communities
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute admissions events including open houses, school fairs, lottery sessions, and new family orientations
  • Produce and distribute the school's weekly family newsletter - including content gathering, writing, editing, and distribution list management
  • Manage Academie Lafayette's social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and others), including content creation, scheduling, monitoring, and engagement reporting
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for emergency and time-sensitive communications to families and staff, including school closures, weather delays, and urgent notices
  • Assist in the development and execution of marketing and branding initiatives, including digital advertising campaigns across Facebook, Google, and other platforms
  • Create communications materials such as flyers, graphics, and announcements using Canva or similar tools, maintaining consistent school branding across all platforms
  • Maintain and regularly audit family and staff contact lists, the school photo library, and the communications calendar to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Ensure all communications and digital content comply with FERPA and applicable student privacy policies
  • Attend evening and weekend events as needed to document, record, or livestream school activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; communications, marketing, education, journalism, public relations, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in admissions, communications, outreach, or a related role
  • Demonstrated experience managing organizational social media accounts (Facebook required)
  • Experience writing professional communications for a broad, diverse audience
  • Proficiency with Canva or similar design tools; Google Workspace; social media scheduling and analytics tools
  • Experience with CRM systems, student information systems, or admissions platforms preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Availability for occasional evenings, weekends, and off-hours emergency communications
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between campuses and off-site events
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred: Proficiency or conversational ability in French or Spanish; familiarity with Missouri charter school enrollment policies; prior K-12 or charter school experience
