Job description

We are looking for an experienced Attorney to provide legal counsel for public-sector organizations in East Point, Georgia. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for a licensed attorney who can navigate municipal legal matters, support governing bodies, and deliver practical guidance across a range of government operations. The role includes both daytime legal work and periodic evening attendance at public meetings, making it well suited for someone comfortable advising stakeholders in formal civic settings.


Responsibilities:

• Advise city, county, and school board clients on legal matters affecting public administration and day-to-day government operations.

• Prepare, examine, and negotiate agreements to help ensure contractual terms align with applicable laws and organizational interests.

• Participate in evening council sessions several times each month to provide legal guidance during public meetings and related proceedings.

• Assist with workplace and personnel issues, including matters involving labor relations, employment policies, and compliance concerns.

• Perform detailed legal research and interpret statutes, regulations, and case law to support sound decision-making.

• Respond to records-related inquiries and help manage public information requests in accordance with open records requirements.

• Draft legal documents, including motions, briefs, and discovery materials, as needed to support active matters and disputes.

• Active license to practice law in Georgia is required.

• Previous legal experience supporting government entities such as municipalities, counties, or school systems is required.

• Demonstrated background in contract drafting, contract review, and legal advisory work is required.

• Knowledge of labor and employment law principles is required.

• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills are essential.

• Familiarity with open records matters or public records request handling is a plus.
