At Bighamโ€™s Smokehouse, we believe leadership is about more than managing a shift. It is about serving people well, setting the standard, building up the team, and helping create a family atmosphere for both our guests and our employees.
Our family has been serving West Texas since 1978, and we are looking for an Evening Assistant Manager who wants to be part of something meaningful. This is a role for someone who enjoys leading people, taking ownership, supporting daily restaurant operations, and helping others grow in responsibility, confidence, and service.
A great Evening Assistant Manager at Bighamโ€™s understands that we are in the people business, not just the food business. Food quality matters. Speed matters. Cleanliness matters. Systems matter. But the way we care for our team and serve our guests matters just as much.
This role is especially important because evening shifts require steady leadership, clear communication, attention to detail, and the ability to finish the day well. From serving food to cleaning floors to closing the restaurant, you see every part of the evening as an opportunity to lead by example, encourage the team, and make sure things are done the right way.
At Bighamโ€™s, we value Excellence, Consistency, Loyalty, and Service. These values guide how we work, how we lead, how we treat one another, and how we serve our community.
What This Role Looks Like
As the Evening Assistant Manager, you will help lead the restaurant during evening shifts while supporting the General Manager and the overall health of the store. You will protect the guest experience, maintain food quality and cleanliness standards, support Team Members and Team Leaders, and help make sure the restaurant closes with excellence.
You are someone who appreciates food quality, guest service, and empowering the people you lead. You enjoy seeing employees succeed under pressure, work together as a team, and complete orders with care, energy, and consistency.
Holding people accountable while showing respect, kindness, and clarity fits your leadership style. When people come to work under your leadership, they should feel supported, challenged, encouraged, and confident in what is expected of them.
You understand the value of systems. Checklists, cleaning standards, food orders, inventory, closing procedures, schedules, and accountability tools are not a burden to you. You see them as structure that helps the team succeed and helps the restaurant run well.
You also understand that people follow better when they know why something matters. You communicate clearly, explain expectations, and help your team understand how their work contributes to the bigger picture.
Your leadership is built around getting the best out of each person you lead and helping them realize they are capable of more than they may think.
Responsibilities
As an Evening Assistant Manager, you will be expected to:
  • Lead the evening team with a service-first, team-first mindset
  • Support the General Manager in daily restaurant operations
  • Take ownership of the restaurant during assigned evening shifts
  • Understand that we are in the people business, not just the food business
  • Set the tone for the shift through attitude, work ethic, communication, and consistency
  • Help Team Members and Team Leaders feel supported, prepared, and empowered
  • Hold the team accountable with respect, kindness, and clarity
  • Make sure food quality, presentation, and consistency meet Bighamโ€™s standards
  • Help maintain speed of service, cleanliness, food safety, and guest satisfaction
  • Keep the shift organized and help the team stay focused during busy evening hours
  • Communicate clearly with Team Members, Team Leaders, management, and guests
  • Lead by example in every task, including serving food, cleaning, stocking, and helping where needed
  • Use systems, checklists, food orders, cleaning lists, inventory, and other tools to keep the restaurant running well
  • Help with ordering, inventory, scheduling, training, and accountability as needed
  • Make sure closing procedures are completed with excellence and consistency
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment
  • Support the training and development of Team Members and Team Leaders
  • Handle guest concerns with professionalism, care, and urgency
  • Protect the culture and family atmosphere of Bighamโ€™s
  • Represent Bighamโ€™s values of Excellence, Consistency, Loyalty, and Service
What Weโ€™re Looking For
A strong candidate is someone who is:
  • Mature, dependable, and responsible
  • Team-oriented and willing to serve others
  • Able to lead by example
  • Comfortable holding others accountable
  • Kind, respectful, and steady under pressure
  • Teachable and open to feedback
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Able to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment
  • Able to communicate clearly with teammates, managers, and guests
  • Able to make decisions with confidence and humility
  • Able to take ownership without needing constant direction
  • Able to finish tasks and close the restaurant with consistency
  • Able to stand for up to 8 hours at a time
  • Able to lift, carry, or pull heavy objects when needed
  • Willing to complete or maintain a Manager Food Safety Certification
Restaurant leadership experience is preferred, but strong character, ownership, humility, and a desire to grow as a leader matter just as much.
Schedule
This is an evening leadership position. Hours may vary based on restaurant needs, but this role will primarily work afternoon and evening shifts.
Evening and weekend availability is expected. This position is a good fit for someone who enjoys leading later in the day, helping the team finish strong, and making sure the restaurant is ready for the next day.
Why Work at Bighamโ€™s?
At Bighamโ€™s, leadership means helping people become better while serving guests with excellence. We want leaders who care about people, care about standards, and care about doing things the right way.
You will grow in responsibility, communication, organization, accountability, and servant-hearted leadership. You will be part of a workplace built around family, service, integrity, and strong values.
If you are looking for an evening leadership role where you can work hard, serve others, grow people, and help lead a team that feels like family, we would love for you to apply.
