Job description

KVIA-TV is the dominant #1 station in the El Paso, Texas/Las Cruces, New Mexico market. We are owned by News-Press & Gazette - a family-run company that owns stations and other media outlets throughout the West and Midwest. El Paso is a dynamic city, in the heart of the mountainous desert southwest. It's located where Texas, New Mexico and Juarez, Mexico meet. It's called the Sun City - with more than 300 days of sunshine a year.
The main anchor will review and present newscasts to viewers, produce & write special reports, represent station and community events, and produce if needed. The El Paso/Las Cruces area covers more than 1 million people, not counting the 1.5 million across the border. It's a busy breaking news market with national & international implications due to its location. KVIA-TV is a legacy station - we are looking for a newsroom leader, excellent communicator and a journalist who develops contacts and breaks stories.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Anchor evening newscasts (5pm, 6pm & 10pm)
  • Write and copy edit newscast scripts
  • Write and deliver news teases
  • Write and record radio updates for local radio station
  • Keep abreast of current local, national, and international news
  • Coach producers, reporters in storytelling, showcasing, balance, and ethics
  • Research, write and present special reports
  • Offer well-researched story ideas during editorial meetings
  • Keep in touch with the community and the type of stories that are helpful to viewers
  • Represent the station at public events and meetings
  • Write, produce & edit packages and special reports
  • Produce newscasts if needed
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:
  • Solid written and verbal communications skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
  • 5 years' experience as an anchor & reporter
  • Job is contingent upon successful completion of a drug test and background check
