Evening Program Assistant York Adult Education Position Type: Part-Time Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, 4:00-8:30 PM Reports To: Director of Adult Education Position Summary The Evening Program Assistant provides evening coverage and support for adult education classes and programming. This position serves as a welcoming first point of contact for students, instructors, and visitors and helps ensure that evening classes run smoothly. The role includes greeting students, supporting teachers, maintaining attendance records, contacting learners, sending reminders, assisting with basic registration questions, and helping create a safe, organized, and welcoming evening learning environment. Essential Responsibilities Student and Program Support Greet students, instructors, and visitors during evening program hours. Assist students with locating classrooms, signing in, and understanding class procedures. Answer basic questions about schedules, registration, and program services. Help maintain a welcoming, respectful, and student-centered environment. Teacher and Classroom Support Assist instructors with room access, supplies, attendance materials, and basic technology needs. Help ensure classrooms are ready for evening classes. Communicate student, classroom, attendance, or facility concerns to appropriate staff. Attendance and Learner Follow-Up Maintain accurate attendance records for evening classes. Collect and submit attendance information according to program procedures. Call, email, or message learners with class reminders, attendance follow-up, schedule updates, and other program information. Help support learner persistence by keeping students connected to their classes. Evening Office Coverage Provide general office coverage during evening hours. Answer phones, respond to messages, and assist with basic registration-related questions. Help with forms, sign-in sheets, class materials, and other program paperwork. Assist with closing procedures at the end of the evening. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in an office, school, customer service, or community program setting preferred. Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills. Ability to work effectively with adult learners, instructors, staff, and community members. Comfort using email, basic computer programs, phones, and office equipment. Dependability, professionalism, and confidentiality are essential. Work Environment This position is based in an adult education setting during evening hours and includes office coverage, classroom support, student interaction, and communication with instructors and learners. Terms of Employment Part-time evening position. Schedule, hourly rate, and terms of employment to be established by the district and Adult Education program. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated by the Director of Adult Education in accordance with district policy.
