Job description

Tri-City Group is seeking a Commercial Civil Estimator to join our team in Davenport, IA. This position is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial civil construction projects while developing and maintaining the Civil Division's estimating systems, standards, and cost databases. This role leads the administration of the HCSS HeavyBid estimating platform and collaborates with operations and company leadership to improve estimating accuracy, support successful project execution, and establish the foundation for long-term division growth.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare complete quantity takeoffs and competitive estimates for commercial civil construction projects
  • Analyze plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, contracts, and bid documents
  • Prepare estimates for excavation, grading, site development, underground utilities, commercial concrete flatwork, and structural concrete construction
  • Lead the implementation, administration, and maintenance of the HCSS HeavyBid estimating platform
  • Develop and maintain labor rates, equipment rates, production rates, crew compositions, material pricing databases, and bid assemblies
  • Collaborate with operations personnel to ensure estimating assumptions accurately reflect field production and construction methods
  • Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotation
  • Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering alternatives
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, bid reviews, and project turnover meetings
  • Review estimate accuracy and continuously improve estimating methods and database management
  • Develop and maintain estimating standards, procedures, and best practices for the Civil Division
  • Support budgeting, planning, and strategic estimating initiatives
  • Assist with training and mentoring estimators as assigned
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and bid documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of estimating experience in commercial civil construction
  • Demonstrated experience estimating excavation, grading, underground utilities, commercial concrete, site development, or related civil construction projects
  • Advanced proficiency using HCSS HeavyBid
  • Experience developing and maintaining estimating databases, labor rates, equipment rates, production rates, and crew compositions
  • Strong understanding of civil construction means, methods, equipment, and labor productivity
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
