Overview

Full-Time Private Chef | San Francisco, CA Local Bay Area Candidates Only, Please!

A dynamic, health-focused couple based in San Francisco is seeking a talented and self-directed full-time Private Chef to join their household. They are entrepreneurs who move quickly, value simplicity, and want exceptional food without the fuss. This is a low-friction, low-ego household that offers tremendous creative latitude - they simply want to eat well, feel good, and not think too hard about it.

This is a five-day-per-week position covering three meals a day. The couple is fully vegetarian, health-conscious, and low-carb in their approach, and the Chef will take full ownership of the kitchen from sourcing and stocking to cooking and cleaning. The right person for this role is genuinely passionate about plant-forward cooking, quietly confident, and completely comfortable operating independently. They do not plan far ahead, so flexibility and adaptability are essential. Beyond the cooking itself, the ideal candidate is organized, professional, discreet, and at ease with the realities of urban private service - including street parking and delivery coordination. Open to occasional travel is a plus.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday most weeks
  • Light entertaining twice a month for four to eight guests
  • Larger events a few times per year, coordinated with the Estate Manager

Scheduling

  • Position requires flexibility, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
  • When the principals are traveling or chef services are not required, the employee may be granted additional paid time off at the employer's discretion, separate from accrued PTO.
  • Employer will make reasonable efforts to provide compensatory scheduling flexibility following periods of unusually intensive work, holiday service, travel support, or special events.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Prepare breakfast daily - the couple has a consistent morning routine including coffee, smoothies, and light breakfast items
  • Prepare and serve lunch, which is the primary meal of the day - think beautiful salads, hearty grain bowls, and nourishing plates
  • Prep dinner and leave it ready - dinner is lighter and the couple prefers minimal involvement in the evening
  • Prep weekend meals for self service / reheating as needed.
  • Prepare the dog's meals daily using pre-prepared food (simple, no special preparation required)
  • Fully stock and maintain a clean, organized kitchen at all times
  • Manage grocery shopping, sourcing, and ingredient procurement - deliveries are preferred where possible to minimize parking challenges
  • Track grocery expenses and submit receipts for reimbursement against an agreed-upon budget
  • Maintain kitchen equipment, supplies, spices, condiments, and pantry staples
  • Be open to light travel when requested

Culinary Style

  • Fully vegetarian - no meat or fish
  • Health-focused, low-carb, and nutritious without being restrictive
  • Simple daily meals with the ability to elevate when the occasion calls for it
  • Broad repertoire with Italian and Mediterranean strengths
  • Ingredient-driven and seasonally inspired
  • Comfortable executing elegant dinner party menus when entertaining

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum three years of full-time Private Chef; fine dining experience is a plus
  • Must be local to the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Genuinely passionate about vegetarian and plant-forward cooking
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be willing to undergo a detailed background check and provide excellent employment references
  • Open to travel when requested - 4-6 weeks per year

Compensation and Benefits

  • $160,000+ per year | DOE
  • Up to $1500 per month in a healthcare stipend for employee
  • 15  PTO days annually
  • 5 paid sick days
  • Access to the state retirement plan
  • Reimbursement of approved business expenses
  • Grocery budget provided via credit card with agreed-upon parameters
