Job description

This is an opportunity to step into a growing estate planning and advisory practice and help shape its future. We're looking for an experienced Estate Planning Attorney who enjoys building systems, improving client experience, and working closely with leadership to develop a modern, comprehensive planning practice. This role goes beyond drafting documents, you'll help design a long-term, client-centered approach that brings together estate planning, business planning, and succession strategies. You won't be walking into a fully built operation. You'll be part of building it helping define workflows, processes, and a coordinated advisory model that supports individuals, families, business owners, and farm owners with long-term planning solutions.


What You'll Do

1. Estate Planning

  • Draft wills to outline inheritance and asset distribution.

  • Prepare financial and healthcare powers of attorney.

  • Create healthcare directives and living wills.

  • Develop strategies to reduce taxes, fees, and probate delays.

  • Plan for incapacity by ensuring trusted decision-makers are in place.

2. Trust Formation & Administration

  • Create and manage trusts (revocable, irrevocable, special needs, generation-skipping, etc.)

  • Design plans to avoid or simplify probate.

  • Implement asset protection strategies.

  • Assist with long-term care and Medicaid planning.

  • Handle trust administration after death.

3. Farm Succession Planning

  • Advise on generational farm transfers and succession strategies.

  • Counsel on ownership structures (LLCs, partnerships, corporations)

  • Draft and review land leases, crop-share agreements, and agricultural contracts.

  • Navigate USDA regulations and conservation programs.

  • Create plans to protect farms from forced sales due to divorce, death, or debt.

  • Develop tax strategies specific to agricultural operations.

4. Business Law & Succession

  • Form business entities (LLCs, S-Corps, partnerships)

  • Draft and review contracts, leases, and vendor agreements.

  • Support employment policies and regulatory compliance.

  • Assist with business purchases and sales.

  • Advise on disputes and litigation matters.

  • Create business succession plans for owners planning for retirement, illness, or death.

5. Client Service & Collaboration

* Provide continuity planning, asset protection, and legacy/tax planning.

* Guide clients through important estate, business, and succession decisions.

* Work closely with attorneys, financial advisors, and accountants.

* Build long-term client relationships through strong communication and service.


What We're Looking For

  • Licensed Attorney in Minnesota.

  • 5-7+ years of experience in estate planning and business law.

  • Strong drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to manage matters independently while working collaboratively.

  • Client-focused mindset with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with farm succession planning, charitable trusts, and advanced tax strategies is a plus.
