Familiarity with cost estimation software (such as Bluebeam, ProEst, or Microsoft Excel) and industry standards is often required, along with relevant certifications like the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) certification. Exceptional communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, architects, and clients make a candidate stand out. These skills are crucial to delivering accurate cost projections, facilitating project planning, and ensuring competitive and profitable bids.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of an Estimator?

As an Estimator, you can expect to review project plans and specifications, perform quantity take-offs, and develop detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment. Collaboration is common, as you will frequently communicate with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to clarify requirements and obtain competitive pricing. Estimators also participate in bid meetings, track changes or updates to project scopes, and prepare documentation for proposals. This role requires excellent organization to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring accuracy in all submissions.
