Part Time - ESL Instructor

The Yuba Community College District is seeking qualified candidates for this part-time, temporary (Adjunct) faculty position. Part-time instructor positions are filled as needed through ongoing recruitment. Applicants are contacted and hired year-round based on college needs. This pool is open continuously and refreshed every two years.

Applicants in this pool will remain active for two years. After two years applicants will receive an email with information on how to remain in the pool.

Important Instructions:

  • It is important to note that the District retains the right to extend time limits or initiate the recruitment/selection process anew at any stage.
  • Education Code ยง87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that he/she/they is free of active tuberculosis.
  • As a condition of employment, the position you are applying for will require that you provide fingerprints to the local police department. The fees charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI for the fingerprint report is the employee's responsibility.
  • Fingerprint clearance must be received prior to the employee's first day on the job.

Job Title: Part Time - ESL Instructor

Location: Woodland Community College - Woodland, CA

Job Description: The person selected will be expected to: Evaluate ESL student success data, propose hypotheses for limited student success, and respond with ESL program/curricula design; Facilitate department, division meetings, and Student Success Committee meetings; develop and assess Student Learning Outcomes, pursue professional growth activities, and perform other duties consistent with the role of a faculty resource and instructor; Serve on District and College committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

Essential Duties Summary: Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for instructors in English at California Community Colleges: Master's in TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESOL emphasis, linguistics with a TESOL emphasis, English with a TESOL emphasis, or education with a TESOL emphasis OR Bachelor's in TESOL, English with a TESOL certificate, linguistics with a TESOL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESOL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESOL certificate AND Master's in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading speech, or any foreign language OR Possess a California Community College life credential in the subject matter area of English. OR the equivalent Equivalency Requirement: All applicants are required to meet the minimum qualifications specified by the Yuba Community College District (YCCD) by the application filing date. Alternatively, applicants must have obtained an equivalency determination from the District before the publication of the Recruitment Announcement. Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Experience and/or knowledge in working with students of great diversity in socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of literacy. Interest and/or experience in curriculum development, professional development or academic leadership. Knowledge of current issues and educational trends in teaching ESL and/or Basic Skills in a community college setting. Academic preparation and/or experience in teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking in ESL courses. Knowledge of diagnostic and classroom assessment practices and their applications. Ability to make effective teaching presentations using appropriate and current pedagogies and methodologies. Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of community colleges and the responsibilities of its faculty in realizing this mission. Academic preparation and experience in teaching ESL to adult students. Effective oral and written communication skills. Evidence of continuing professional growth in ESL, Basic Skills, and/or related areas.

Physical Demands: Range/Step - Class I - VII (Based on degree and teaching experience).

Salary Range: Steps 1: $1,377.25 - Step 10: $2,306.66 per unit.
