General Description: This is a part-time instructional assignment in the Noncredit Department at Merced College under the general direction of the Dean of Adult Education and Noncredit. The professor could be assigned to teach a variety of English courses. The maximum teaching load is 10 units per semester, which may include evening and weekend hours.

Examples of Duties Essential Functions: Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policy Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy Participate in the development and review of curriculum Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials Participate in departmental, area and campus professional activities/committees Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments Perform tasks needed for student records, e.g., submit grades on time to admissions and records Typical Qualifications Required: Except as provided elsewhere in this article (53412. Minimum Qualifications for Instructors of Noncredit Courses), qualifications for service as a faculty member teaching a noncredit course shall be the same as the minimum qualifications for credit instruction in the appropriate discipline, or as follows: A Bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages OR A Bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual bicultural studies, reading, or speech AND a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor OR A Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above AND one year of experience teaching ESL in an accredited institution AND a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor OR Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credentialauthorizing instruction in ESL Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues

Preferred: Teaching experience in the field Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments.
