Position Information
Job Title PT ESL ADULT BASIC EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR (Pool) Position Status Part Time Classification Title Part-Time ADE-Up to 19 hpw Work Location Cogdell 201 W Florida, Midland, TX 79701 Job Summary
ESL Instructor will work in a classroom setting teaching adults the skills needed to speak, read and write English at Cogdell Learning Center. Instructors will work in a classroom setting instructing students who are seeking ESL services through Midland College's Adult Basic Education Program.
Required Qualifications
An earned Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution;
Strong organizational skills;
Attention to detail;
General familiarity with computers, Word, and Excel programs;
Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external groups;
Willingness to participate in collaborative projects with colleagues and instructional leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in teaching adult students or high school students;
Experience with curriculum design, curriculum implementation, and assessment of student progress;
Experience working in a correctional facility;
Experience teaching in different modalities to include face-to-face, hybrid, and online/remote.
Essential Functions
Instruct students who have achieved varying levels of mastery in the subject matter area;
Teach students online, face-to-face, or a combination of the two modalities on a schedule as assigned by the ESL Coordinator;
Communicate effectively and appropriately with students;
Integrate essential workplace competencies into the classroom setting;
Report and interpret test results for individual students;
Develop and promote a safe learning environment for all students;
Provide tutoring and additional instructional support to students as necessary;
Attend required staff meetings;
Complete the required 15 clock hours of professional development as assigned through the state training portal by the program's Professional Development Coordinator;
Participate in student registration and orientation functions as necessary;
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds;
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time;
Use of manual dexterity;
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation;
The person in this position needs to occasionally move from office to classroom.
Security Sensitivity
All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
