JOB SUMMARY
The K-CET ESL Instructor provides high-quality English language instruction and student support services to adult learners whose first language is not English. The instructor teaches multi-level English language acquisition classes designed to improve students' reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation skills while supporting their educational, workforce, and personal goals. The position contributes to student retention, persistence, and successful transition to postsecondary education, workforce training, employment, and other career pathways. The instructor collaborates with K-CET staff and community partners to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and deliver engaging ESL lessons tailored to students' language levels (A1 - C1/CEFR or equivalent).
• Teach integrated skills: reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.
• Teaches course information to students using instructional methodology appropriate to the audience and the subject; e.g., group discussion, online, technology-enhanced delivery, computers) at various times.
• Proficiency in the Canvas learning management system is required.
• Must be able to design and deliver supplemental teaching materials in various ways to meet the needs of a broad range of learning abilities.
• Conduct needs assessments and ongoing student evaluations to track progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Participate in instructor evaluation and assessment of student academic achievement, and demonstrate
  modification of teaching techniques by assessment feedback.
• Cultivate a variety of teaching styles to provide quality learning experiences to a diverse student population.
• Works effectively using written and oral English communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to meet all faculty requirements, including creating course syllabi, evaluating student progress, and grading according to college policy and procedure.
• Tracks student attendance with a focus on student retention and persistence.
• Prepare classroom materials, lesson plans, and assessments aligned with curriculum standards.
• Participates in student outreach and success strategies, including, but not limited to
• Contacting students regarding attendance.
• Refer students to support structures for resources - tutoring, academic programs of interest, etc.
• Communicating with students about the next steps - transitioning into KCC or a desired job.
• Provide feedback and guidance to students on academic performance and language development.
  Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
• Participate in program meetings, curriculum development, and professional development activities.
  Support student integration into the academic and cultural environment of the institution.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• If assigned, this position may require administrative work on grant-funded program activities and reporting.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree.
• Demonstrated sensitivity and experience working with individuals from diverse social, economic, ethnic, academic, disability, and cultural backgrounds.
• Excellent proficiency in English

Preferred:

• TESOL degree or certification
• Knowledge of CEA Accreditation
• Intensive English Language and Adult Basic Education teaching experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

• Experience teaching adult students is preferred.
• Individuals should preferably possess knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment appropriate for instructing adult language learners.
• Must demonstrate a commitment and ability to serve a diverse community.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
• Cultural sensitivity and empathy.
• Classroom management and lesson adaptability

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• May occasionally lift, carry, stoop, and bend (up to 20 lbs.).
• Frequently moving from stationary sitting positions to standing and walking
• May include evening or weekend classes depending on program needs.
• May be required to teach both in-person and online formats.
• Occasional participation in student events and orientation programs

This position is contingent upon the availability of funding from external grants. In the event that grant funding is reduced, eliminated, or not renewed, the position may be subject to modification or termination.
This position is classified as part-time and is typically scheduled for up to 29 hours per week. Regularly scheduled hours may be subject to change. Hours may not exceed 128 hours per one-month pay period. Not eligible for paid holidays, vacation or healthcare benefits beyond those required by law.
This position does not qualify for benefits.
