What is Escape Velocity?

Escape velocity is the minimum speed an object must reach in order to break free from the gravitational pull of a planet or other celestial body, without further propulsion. For example, Earth's escape velocity is about 11.2 kilometers per second (approximately 25,000 miles per hour). This concept is crucial in space travel, as rockets must achieve escape velocity to leave Earth's atmosphere and enter outer space. Achieving escape velocity ensures that the object won't fall back to the planet due to gravity.
