Job description

We are seeking an exceptional researcher for dual responsibilities to lead our quantitative equity and funds research programs. This is a team leads role reporting into the Head of Analytics Research.
This individual will be responsible for taking ownership of the StarMine suite of equity models, modernizing the existing model estate, building the next generation of equity models along the model development lifecycle, leading equity thought leadership and outreach to clients and prospects, engaging with model risk management and model validation, establishing protocols for the research component of production support, and recruiting and leading a direct report in New York City and the Bucharest based Machine Learning / Econometric support team as well as collaborating with proposition, product, and engineering.
In addition, this individual will lead our global funds fundamental and methodology research team for Lipper and should possess extensive knowledge around mutual funds, closed-end funds (CEFs), exchange-traded funds (ETFs), hedge funds, domestic retirement funds, pension funds, and insurance products. This individual will set the publication agenda, oversee creation of thought leadership content, and oversee the creation and refinement of research methodologies including fund rankings and classifications.
Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of existing suite of equity models and performance monitoring which includes learning and understanding data, model specification, production implementation, coordination with model validation and model risk management, and compute needs.
  • Conduct innovative research and construct next generation of equity / alpha models.
  • Set team vision and direct priorities.
  • Take responsibility for the Model Development Lifecycle including coordination with key contributors from other functions.
  • Lead outreach geared toward client satisfaction, converting prospects to customers, and expanding the brand footprint.
  • Thorough understanding of the mutual funds business, including portfolio construction, pooled investment analytics, performance, fund flows and expenses, distribution channels, and major trends.
  • Familiarity with Lipper classifications and industry applications, such as Lipper for Investment Management, Global Fund Flows, and LSEG Workspace.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders within the broader researcher team as well as across the organization including proposition, product, and engineering, sales, marketing, model risk, and model validation.

Candidate Profile / Key Skills
  • 10-15 years' experience in a similar role demonstrating prior equity modelling building and significant equity markets subject matter expertise.
  • Prior exposure and experience with StarMine models is desired.
  • Prior experience leading an equity research team is required.
  • Prior experience interacting with prospects and clients is required.
  • Experience with machine learning and NLP is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Python programming language is required.
  • Proficiency in a Unix or Linux environment is required.
  • Prior Experience with Lipper is required.
  • Cloud experience with AWS and/or Azure and Spark (or variants like AWS Glue) for large-scale processing of structured and unstructured data is a required.
  • Prior experience integrating data and models into production processes is desired.
  • Needs to be self-reliant, resourceful, and eager to lead with a strong desire and ability to innovate.
  • Advanced degree in a field such as Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, or Mathematics preferred.

Compensation/Benefits Information:
LSEG is committed to offering competitive Compensation and Benefits. The anticipated base salary for this position is $208,000 - $346,800.
Please be aware base salary ranges may vary by geographic location, city and state. In addition to our offered base salary, this role is eligible for our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP/"bonus plan"). Target AIP rates will be commensurate with role level and posted career stage. Individual salary will be reflective of job related knowledge, skills and equivalent experience. LSEG roles (excluding internships and part-time roles of less than 20 hours per week) are typically eligible for inclusion in our LSEG Benefits program, which includes offerings of: Annual Wellness Allowance, Paid time-off, Medical, Dental, Vision, Flex Spending & Health Savings Options, Prescription Drug plan, 401(K) Savings Plan and Company match.
