Job description
The Center for Health Equity and Community Wellness (CHECW) is at the forefront of addressing the root causes of health inequities. With a focus on social, environmental, and commercial determinants of health, we work to dismantle centuries of systemic injustice and build a future where every New Yorker has the opportunity to thrive. Our work spans community and healthcare systems, partnering with community and faith-based groups, health delivery organizations, and city agencies to tackle inequities head-on. The Office of the Chief Equity Officer, housed within CHECW, provides executive leadership to advance equity internally across the agency, with a particular focus on embedding systemic equity principles into programs, and operations. The office advances the Race to Justice initiative by driving organizational accountability, informing strategic decision-making, and supporting the implementation of equitable practices across all levels of the department. Race to Justice is the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's agency-wide internal transformation initiative for promoting anti racism and embedding racial equity and social justice in our policies, processes, and programs, ensuring that our internal and external practices reflect our values without perpetuating injustices.
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner/Chief Equity Officer seeks to hire a Trainer for the Race to Justice Management team. This role will support education initiatives and serve as a core collaborative partner within the Race to Justice Management team.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
o Serve as a consistent Facilitator for continuous Race to Justice Core Workshop session delivery
o Provide support with day-to-day coordination of staffing, a tendance, logistics, and communications for training sessions.
o Assist with recruiting, onboarding, communicating and engaging with co-facilitators while helping to distribute training needs and resources
o Assist in preparing curricula, facilitator guides, participant handouts, and reference materials.
o Participate actively in supporting the design, development, and ongoing delivery of additional Race to Justice training and supportive opportunities.
o Delivers ongoing technical assistance and hands-on training to co-facilitator team members in workshop facilitation techniques, and effective multi-audience presentation strategies.
o Participate as a full contributor on the Race to Justice Management Team, continually supporting overall team functions and collaborative initiatives.
o Serves as a core thought partner in formulating strategic recommendations to leadership, staff, and external equity partners to streamline communication pathways and embed equitable practices directly into agency operating procedures advancing the core mission of the Race to Justice initiative.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
o Demonstrated commitment to health equity, racial and gender justice for communities of color, including equity for LGBTQ+ and TGNC communities and cisgender women of color
o Ability to facilitate learning and engagement around racial equity and social justice
o Minimum of 2 years of professional working experience evaluating learning and development activities (trainings, workshops, courses) for both knowledge, attitudes, and skills changes, and satisfaction
o Experience in public health, particularly with knowledge of racial equity and social justice core concepts
o Exceptional communication and presentation skills for multiple audiences, including public speaking, workshop facilitation, and content development
o Maintain a strong functional command of Microsoft Office suite, email systems, and core office software to ensure clear, organized, and timely communication across the agency.
o Demonstrated success working with diverse groups, team building, and collaborative relationships
o Strong attention to details, with ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and successfully meet deadlines
o Knowledge of government, public health departments and/or experience working in a similarly complex organizational structure are a plus
