SCOPE OF POSITION
The Operations Manager is an intermediate leadership position, responsible for a specific territory and business region of the company's operations. The Operations Manager is responsible for the following aspects of this business: equipment, crew deployments, field operations, safety, and reporting. They will aim to improve the working environment and business processes of the applicable business unit(s) and to strengthen client relationships to ensure successful continuance of business operations.
OVERALL GOALS FOR POSITION
  • Provide comprehensive support to the business unit manager in overseeing project operations.
  • Execute and manage intricate site investigation programs across the region.
  • Lead and supervise field crews, ensuring projects are conducted professionally and safely with well-trained teams.
  • Cultivate a client-focused culture centered on safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Concentrate on identifying and capitalizing on opportunities, projects, and clients while maintaining a robust local client base.
  • Optimize teamwork across combined operations for enhanced collaboration.

ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Project Operations Management
  • Collaborate with clients to secure job opportunities by formulating and outlining field exploration plans.
  • Lead and supervise field crews during project implementation, overseeing the entire project management process.
  • Uphold data quality standards and prioritize the safety of operations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Generate and deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality data reports tailored to client needs, collaborating with regional or centralized data reporting teams.
  • Coordinate crew and equipment allocations to optimize project efficiency.
  • Develop project proposals and generate quotes for client consideration.
  • Monitor project expenditures against budgets and collaborate with the Office Administrator to generate and review invoices.
  • Participate in and lead client project meetings, including pre-planning, kick-off, and safety performance-related sessions.
  • Conduct meetings and presentations with existing and prospective clients to communicate the organization's services.
  • Cultivate robust client relationships through ongoing dialogue regarding their site investigation and data requirements.
  • Prioritize and ensure client satisfaction with delivered services.
  • Engage actively in relevant regional professional and industry associations, attending conferences, trade shows, and association meetings to stay informed and contribute to the industry.

Equipment Operations
  • Demonstrate expertise in a variety of drilling equipment and other machinery within our expansive fleet.
  • Perform routine maintenance on diverse equipment types to guarantee optimal functionality.
  • Maintain and monitor equipment to ensure proper functionality and overall operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate logistics for the mobilization and demobilization of equipment in challenging and remote environments.

People Management
  • Offer leadership and technical support to both field and office staff, directing project execution and assisting in troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrate expertise in correct drilling procedures and oversee the proper training of field crews.
  • Efficiently schedule crews, equipment, and supplies for seamless project execution.
  • Enforce adherence to company policies among field crews.
  • Provide essential support to enable optimal job performance for field crews.
  • Mentor and cultivate team members, managing work allocation, training, conflict resolution, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a positive and safe working environment, contributing to a healthy workplace culture.
  • Facilitate guidance for larger, integrated teams within the organization.
  • Ensure proper equipment maintenance in accordance with industry and manufacturer standards.
  • Oversee a safe and efficient shop environment.
  • Conduct routine site visits, project kick-off meetings, and site safety visits, both with and without clients, and engage in general safety interactions with field crews.
  • Adhere to regular business hours and attend special meetings, discussions with staff or crew members, and other business-related activities as required.

Health & Safety
  • Lead regular Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) meetings, fostering a strong culture of safe work, and conduct general safety meetings as required.
  • Identify with and respect ConeTec's safety culture, first and foremost.
  • Ensure proper preparation and knowledge of all necessary safe operating procedures before beginning any job.
  • Report any safety-related incidents, infractions, or near misses to the Project Manager and the HSE Officer, immediately.
  • Know and follow the incident reporting protocol at all times.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education Requirements
  • University graduate with a degree in Engineering (Civil, Geological or Mining) or in Geology / Geophysics.
  • Professional designation with an applicable association is required.
  • Knowledgeable in a wide range of ConeTec's exploration methods and mechanically inclined.
  • Driver's license and clean driving record.

Experience Requirements
  • 7-10 years of previous experience in the geotechnical/environmental drilling industry.
  • Ability to travel and work in a variety of remote locations.

Technical Skill Requirements
  • Electrical and mechanical technical skills are an asset.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving heavy materials up to 50 lbs., climbing, crawling as well as walking on uneven ground, working long hours in all weather conditions.
  • Extensive technical knowledge with field work and project management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong understanding of and ability to apply business principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster strong working relationships.
  • Must enjoy performing a wide variety of duties and be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
