Operation Manager

Location: Chicago IL - On-Site

Our partner is a leading national healthcare supply chain organization dedicated to positively impacting lives through innovative and reliable distribution services. With a team of over 750 employees across strategically located distribution centers in the United States, the organization is committed to financial stewardship, accountability, forward-thinking practices, aligned relationships, and fostering an inclusive culture grounded in integrity and respect.

Our partner is currently seeking a full-time Operations Manager to join its Chicago, IL distribution center. This individual will play a critical leadership role in overseeing all aspects of distribution center operations, including personnel management, receiving, inventory, shipping, logistics, financial performance, and facility operations. The Operations Manager will be responsible for driving operational consistency, efficiency, and cost reduction through the development and implementation of standardized work processes while ensuring alignment with company performance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and management of distribution center operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to support business performance and service excellence.
  • Drive productivity and performance metrics, including throughput, order accuracy, on-time shipping, and labor efficiency.
  • Foster a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA standards, company policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and frontline team members, including hiring, training, performance management, and ongoing development.
  • Monitor and manage distribution center financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, expense management, and variance analysis.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to ensure service excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Investigate service failures and implement corrective and preventative actions to improve performance.
  • Support warehouse design and process improvements, including layout optimization, product flow, and equipment evaluation.
  • Maintain strong communication across all levels of the organization, ensuring alignment on goals, progress, and expectations.
  • Represent the organization professionally within the community and participate in company initiatives and best practice sharing.
  • Travel approximately 15% as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6 years of operations or distribution experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience managing, supervising, and developing teams in a distribution or warehouse environment.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of distribution center operations and processes.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations; familiarity with FMCSA and DOT regulations preferred.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems such as Voice Pick and VAI (or similar systems).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a leadership team.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.

$90,000 – $105,000 annually
